There was a time in which programming featured shows which promoted family relationships, parental respect, proper behavior, conflict resolution, quality frienships, etc. etc. (Family Matters, Boy Meets World, Who's the Boss, Full House, Cosby Show, and many others). Notice that today's "family" shows have shifted focus to the DYSFUNCTIONAL family. Beyond the over-sexualization and immodesty displayed on television is the widdening deficit of family portrayed in a positive and valued manner. Even marriages take quite the hit on the screen. (I wrote about the Portrayal of Husbands and Wives on TV here: http://revivinghomemaking.blogspot.com/2011/04/portrayal-of-husbands-and-wives-on.html ). There isn't much that can be done to alter popular programming content, but there is a tremendous impact that can be made by simply turning the television off and being selective about the kind of environment one's HOME will be. Just a thought. Thanks for the post! :)Whitneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02565993597437176915noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8046083858777525940.post-91434742117790294082011-06-30T11:06:54.937-07:002011-06-30T11:06:54.937-07:00PBS. We used to have certain shows that we watched each night of the week, and there were certain shows that I'd watch during the day (well, they we on while I was doing other stuff). There is very little that I watch anymore. We watch a lot of baseball games and I watch Little House, 19 Kids and Counting, Quints by Surprise...shows like that, but they are pretty few and far between. I was in love with Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice but was conviced about them when they had partial birth abortion and a lesbian marriage. Thank God that he's working in me to get that garbage out of my mind and life! Everytime I turn the tv on it's young women strutting their stuff, flashing their assets and being generally provocative in order to attract attention. It's pathetic in my opinion. I'm not an old fuddy duddy but I'm not trendy either but I have really pet hate with the youngsters of today who think it's okay to act in a suggestive manner then say they should have the freedom to do as they please. Our society as a whole is becoming more and more damaged by the day and our children (mine's 11) are growing up to think it's perfectly normal behaviour to wear and act however they like in order to attract male attention.

Sorry for ranting on your blog. I was watching it on TVLAND one day and my kids were amazed that they quoted Scripture in the show. They were also amazed to see families praying together on one older show. TV has gone so far down with the bad behavors that society now accepts as norm. It is so sad to see all the changes that have taken place over time and you are right, the degrading of women is one of those areas we have lost ground.Pam @ over50feeling40https://www.blogger.com/profile/15271159201006142602noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8046083858777525940.post-67912954990195318552011-06-30T05:56:02.213-07:002011-06-30T05:56:02.213-07:00At this point, the only thing I really feel comfor...At this point, the only thing I really feel comfortable watching is 19 Kids and Counting.
