A Covenant Marriage

Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife:  and they shall be one flesh. {Genesis 2:24}  God designed marriage.  He meant it to be a covenant {leaving and cleaving} and consummation {one flesh} of a man and a woman.  Period.

Mark Driscoll believes that in his lifetime, we will see polygamy becoming legalized.  We will see a bi-sexual being able to marry a man and a woman.  We will see a Supreme Court upholding these unions, but they are not God's unions.

God is the first one who spoke marriage into existence in Genesis.  Moses repeated it and Jesus and Paul proclaimed it.  There are no blurred lines for those who claim to call themselves Christians.  Sex outside of a union between a man and his wife is wrong.

In the Old Testament, the penalty for adultery was death.  In the New Testament, the penalty is divorce and in the final judgement, it is destruction. God holds marriage by His design in high esteem, so it is wise that we do also.

Mark Driscoll preached a great sermon on adultery.  You can listen to it HERE.  He is very bold in calling sin "sin."  Sin is always destructive.  It always leaves scars and it always hurts someone.  The healthiest place for people to have sex is in marriage.  The healthiest place for children to grow up in is a home with a mother and a father.  These things will never change no matter what lies society tries and tells us.

We must not become lukewarm as times become more perilous.  We must stand upon the Word of God.  He will have the final say.  No one else.  Don't be swayed by those who want to tickle your ears and compromise Truth.  Base all of your beliefs on the solid Word of God and live.

Thank you for speaking truth in a world where everyone wants to be "open minded" and accept everything that is unholy and against God's commandments. I have a covenant marriage, and because God is the foundation of our marriage, it is beautiful. Thank you for this post!

Hell involves eternal torment, Jesus taught clearly about the reality of hell (not a popular subject these days). God's plan for sex is clearly one man & one woman. Any deviations from that plan will bring His judgement. Christians have a responsibility to WARN others but God is the only judge. We are called to love everyone, but to still tell them the TRUTH. We don't want to see people go to hell, we just know God means what He says. Keep telling people the truth Lori....they need to hear. Love & prayers, in Jesus, Cynthia

I have been following you and receiving your daily emails for some time. I am in total agreement with you on marriage and raising children. I have been married for 32 years. Early in my marriage I read a book called "Creative Counterpart" based n Proverbs 31. It changed me forever. When you recommended Mark Driscoll, I did some research on him. I am very careful about who I listen to. I was shocked about the things that I read about him and his ministry. He sounds very much like a false teacher. He uses his pulpit to speak of things that should never be said in mixed company. He is very crude and vulgar. He brings shame to the Christian faith and the Holy God they serve. He is very irreverent. I didn't bother to listen to his sermon that you had posted after what I found out about him because I didn't care to hear what he said about anything. Anybody can speak well sometime. You have to know how they stand on every doctrine. It concerns me now what your beliefs are. I hope that you were unaware of this man and just happen to hear a sermon that was sound. I don't want to lose my confidence in your blog but I have to listen to the Holy Spirit when he tells me to beware.

Why are there so many examples of polygamy throughout biblical scripture?

I see what you mean, and I agree. But what about 2 Samuel 12:8 where God is speaking through Nathan and states that he has given David multiple wives. For the record I don't agree with polygamy, but I do struggle with some examples in scripture.

First let me say, I am in agreement with the Biblical truths you've stated.
As followers of Christ we (personally) have a responsibility to hold strong and true to Godly principles.
However.
Christ showed us how to respond to sin: in love (Matthew 7:39) and without judgement. (Matthew 1:1-4)
All humans are sinners. The only exception was Christ.
Let's be kind to each other, because it's much easier to touch a heart for God's glory and eternal salvation through kindness...
