Unmaterialistic And Simple Living

One young woman with several children was discontent. She lived in an apartment but wanted to live on a homestead with her own home and garden. She started reading an older woman's writings about motherhood, being a wife, and simple living. This is what she later wrote that older woman ~

I have become totally unmaterialistic, devoted to simple living, incredibly absorbed in mothering and being a wife and more in love with my Lord in the last year.

Psalm 37 is a good Psalm to read and meditate upon.

Trust in the Lord and do good.

Delight yourself also in the Lord;
and He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Commit your ways unto the Lord.

Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him.

Fret not yourself.

Cease from anger and forsake wrath.

A little that a righteous man has is better than the riches of many wicked.

So many wonderful things to ponder in this Psalm.

Living a simple lifestyle pleasing to the Lord brings great joy. God tells us that godliness with contentment is great gain. These things are not easy in this day of the greatest material wealth this world has ever seen. Never being satisfied and always wanting more is not what the Lord asks of us. If we are married with children, He asks us to be content with this and the wages your husband earns. If you are single without a husband or children, He asks you to be content and wait patiently on Him. Trust Him. Remember, it isn't having a ton of money or a big mansion that is beautiful, but clean, uncluttered and tidy

Whatever your lot in life, learn to be content. Paul said he had to learn to be content. It doesn't come naturally. Be renewed by the transforming of your mind. Decide to be content and you will learn to be content. Sing praises to His name and be continually thankful for all that He has done.

What wonderful encouragement about contentment. This post your wrote feels to me along the same lines of what I wrote about this morning at my blog. I was encouraged by the message I heard at church this past Sunday and finally got around to share the way it ministered to my heart today. The last scripture you share here, ... A little that a righteous man has is better than the riches of many wicked would tie in so neatly with the encouragement I received from church.

So nice to visit here, it's my first time but I look forward to reading more here!!

Great message.....something we all need to think about more often!
Something God impressed upon me at an early age, and I'm so glad, too!
Excellent and timely word:-) Thank you!
I love the logic of God's Word. Discontent brings the fretting and the anger and the wrath. But trusting and delighting results in the desires of your heart and rest. Great post! (Hopping over from Holy Spirit-Led Homeschooling.)
I LOVE this post. I actually just wrote a post of my blog about how happy and content I am right now even though I have so much I could complain about (my husband had to close down our business, we have no income, we had to rent out our house we love and move in with my in-laws and more).

Wonderful encouragement! Thank you for sharing. Visiting from A Return to Loveliness. Would love it if you would share this at my Make it Pretty Monday party at The Dedicated House. http://thededicatedhouse.blogspot.com/2012/09/mak... Hope to see you at the bash! Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse
Good post! Very true!
I agree! We live in a very materialistic world and can so easily be consumed with wanting more or better. Thanks for sharing scriptures on contentment. Beautiful post!

What a lovely post, such a beautiful reminder! :)
Thank you so much for sharing this - a beautiful reminder that contentment is so important and means so much more than any thing we could wish to have - you've beautifully emphasized on what truly is important. I do appreciate you sharing with A Return to Loveliness,
Kathy
What a beautiful reminder to live simply...
Wonderful post ~ so true ~ hope the world begins to turn around and practice this ~ Taoism also addresses the same concept ~ (A Creative Harbor)
Not sure about just trusting in your husbands wages..

.if he makes enough it works / if he does not,it does not : )

Some women HAVE to go to work and for that I'd reference Proverbs 31 which praises the work of women
Sometimes simple can be hard. Good "U" post.
Thank you for this wonderful reminder!
To be a mother is one of the richest experiences on earth -for one, it makes one grow up fast, lol!
If only the whole world understood this way of life
What a beautiful message.

I think it's an important reminder...and one I shall take to heart in these days of yearning for my old house and gardens.

Thank you for linking.

Thank you for this post. I have been struggling with contentment lately. This has given me a lot to think, meditate and pray on.
My home totally burned in 2014. I am age 71. I lost many family heirlooms and nice things. I have not found a house to buy because of price and location. I stayed in my old travel trailer in summers. I have moved 5 rimes in 18 months. At the trailer I had no running water or indoor plumbing. I had electric. It was rough at times. I like to keep things homey and tidy. I am in a rental for now but I believe my Lord has a plan for me. I am helping my daughters for now and they live 900 miles from me. God has always kept me portable. I plan to rebuild a very small place on my land. I am waiting for my Lord's approval. I was raised like a pioneer woman and I can live very simply off the grid if I have to. I embraced family and home all my life. My Mom was a feminist. I had attitude hurdles to jump. God had another plan for me. I now am a Titus 2 teacher and love the women who dig deeply into the word about the fulfilling role of women. Where I am staying there are few that are devoted to their Biblical role. The whole area is focused on many outside pursuits for the family. To have friendships you have to follow the crowd or have little to discuss. We need many core values to have close relationships. Keep praying and obeying. I will never regret being a family and homemaker. Serenity comes to those women that get close to their altruistic nature.
Good advice to me today! Thank you Lori!
Hugs to you!
I bless you with peace, courage, and good health in the name of Jesus Christ, and I appropriate the blood of Jesus over you for health and healing, in Jesus' name!

It is possible that being obedient means having a job outside the home for some women. We are all called to certain things, namely flexibility and love when dealing with our neighbor. May we a be sensitive to what our call might be.

I'm teaching a women's Bible study on being a Titus 2 Woman right now and your advice as the older Christian woman is so on point, Biblical, and wonderful! Thank you for shining for Christ and putting this out there! I appreciate it!
I really enjoyed this post!
