Downton Abbey

All those months of being housebound did cause me to watch more television than I normally would and my darling daughter, Cassi, helped me find good and decent shows to watch.  Well,  Downton Abbey is one of my all time favorites.
It is on PBS and set in a fictional Yorkshire Country Estate and the series begins when the Titanic sunk.  The clothing is so beautiful and modest.  I don't think you ever even see cleavage!  Every episode is very decent except for one short scene where a man tries to kiss another man.  Other than that, I can't remember anything that wasn't decent.
I never wanted it to end.  Cassi found the first two seasons for me so I watched it from the very beginning.  I would suggest you do it that way also since it builds upon itself.  The third season will be coming out in January.  Hopefully, it is as decent and as good.  Most good television shows degrade as they go along unfortunately.
So it you want an amazing television show to watch, I highly recommend it!

This is the day the LORD has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Love, love, love! I cannot wait until January! Shirley MacLaine joined the cast, so it should be interesting to see what trouble she brings.
I started to watch this while sick, got to that scene you mentioned, and went "Whoa, it's one of those HBO type series", and stopped. I'll have to try it again. Thanks!

I have never seen it but I think I will now!
Its very English and therefore very tastefully done, classy:)

Season three is now out and my copy is waiting for me to watch but you need to buy it from Amazon.uk if you aren't wait.
And, if you haven't seen the "Downtown Arby's" spoof you have totally missed out on all the fun! http://screen.yahoo.com/downton-arby-s-28723019.h...
It's my very favorite show!!! I can't wait till season 3 begins! :) You're right...it's so decent and delightful to the senses with gorgeous music, scenery, clothing, the mansion. I love anything historical!
Blessings,
Leslie
A friend told me I needed to watch in back in August. So I, like you, watched bothe seasons and got my husband interested in it. Can't wait until season 3!
Oh, we see Downton Abbey in cable too and I love, love it, I never miss it. I'm so glad you found something you enjoyed on TV these days, where shows leave a lot to be desired, at least I don't want to waste my time looking at..but this show is very classy and tasteful. Shirley McClain, ok, we'll see. I'm glad you're feeling better my friend. Enjoy your weekend.

Yes, this is one of my favorite shows (my husband loves it too)! I'm very excited for season 3 to start. This and Call the Midwife are my favorite shows ever.
Finally, so refreshing! This is a post I can agree with you on. This Democrat also likes--scratch that--LOVES Downton Abbey (maybe being a history major has something to do with it?). Glad to see you are back to writing about neutral topics. I agree with you on everything--from modesty to marriage tips to GMO food, save politics. I almost had to unsubscribe but it's posts like these and your marriage posts (well really any non-political post!) that keep me coming back.

Thank you, and God bless!

Thank you for the suggestion. It is hard to find something on tv that doesn't push the liberal agenda these days. I also don't want to support the shows/movies of the Hollywood group that is hurting our country and families. That shortens the list A LOT!!!
If you like this sort of thing - check out the BBC products of the Elizabeth Gaskell (Victorian author) novels, such as Wives and Daughters, North and South and Cranford. All beautifully done, lovely stories, no violence, lovely clothes etc... Others worth watching are Emma (2009 version is my favourite), Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre (they are many versions of this one). They are all lovely. I bought all mine through Amazon.uk
It is one of my favourite series ever!!!! I LOVE IT!!! I dont really like Jane Austen type movies, but it has so much history in it love it!!
Yes i love the series too! My son has been downloading series 3 for me and it is exciting! I love how they speak, all politeness , and wish some of it would rub off on me. And the clothes! Love all the details! Maggie Smith is terrific. I'm sure she is having tremendous fun with her role!
I watch very little TV but I may have to look into this! ;)
My favorite TV series too. WE have had three episodes of the third series and it is beautiful again.
I'm also hooked on this show. Was horrified with the
talk of canceling it but yes, it will be back!
I'm really into 'Call the Midwife" also. On PBS
Happy Holidays

LOVE Downton Abbey!! Unfortunately, I've only seen the first season on Netflix so I'm waiting for the 2nd season to become available. Can't wait!
I've never seen it, but I've heard lots of good comments about this series.
Lurve Downton. A young friend of ours had the third season taped and sent to her from the UK. Very jealous! (And did you see the Free Mr. Bates T-shirts?!)

Absolutely hypnotising TV! I've watched series three and, although I think the final episode tied things up a bit too smartly, I loved every minute. Enjoy!
PBS is running repeats of the first two seasons! I'm definitely watching!
Downtown Abbey is a worthy way to use D love it I am blessed to live in uk and see it
