Too Many People are Dying of Cancer

Several women and men I know are dying or have died from cancer recently. It's tragic! Mike Huckabee said in the third GOP debate that if this country could get rid of cancer, diabetes, and heart disease our health care costs would plummet. I'm not sure what he was thinking was a solution but there is no vaccine or drug that is going to automatically cure all three of these diseases.

These diseases are caused by our lifestyles: what we eat, what we drink, the air we breath, the chemicals consumed including drugs and the overall toxicity of life today in America. Most cancers are in the body ten years before being diagnosed. There's not one simple answer for its cure but all I know is we've gotten very far away from the way God created us to live: the food He created, the clean air and water He created and the peace He created.

Yes, I believe we should do everything we can to prevent cancer: eat healthy and organic food, use non-toxic cleansers, live as stress free as possible, get plenty of sleep and exercise, etc. but even if you do all of those things, you can't control the quality of air, water, etc. that goes into your body. Therefore, we do the best we can do and leave the rest in the Lord's hands but there is not an easy fix to these diseases that some drug will cure.

Instead of spending millions of dollars searching for a cure with a drug, we should be researching how to clean up our environment of the toxic chemicals, learn to live with much fewer drugs and eat food the way God intended for us to eat it; not cooked to death and loaded with a bunch of chemicals and artificial ingredients that have been proven to cause cancer.

I have a good friend on a quest to create cookbooks with recipes that are healthy and filled with only ingredients that are good for our bodies. Here are a few pages and recipes from her first book to give you an idea!

I really appreciate that you care for the environment. Too many Christians take the position that the earth was given to us to treat as we sit fit - and that includes destroying it. God has given us a beautiful Earth hat will sustain us until He takes us all to heaven, but only if we take care of it! You are correct in that a healthy home makes for healthy children - both the family home, and the planet home.

Yes, I believe we are to be good stewards of everything the Lord has blessed us with, including the environment. However, I certainly don't worship it as many environmentalists do. I value human life way over animal life since we were made in the image of God; animals were not.
Right, I was speaking more about those who justify pollution, chemicals and dumping into the air and water, etc. by saying that the Lord gave us the Earth and that we can do whatever we want with it. Thinking back on God giving Adam dominion over the animals, I am not sure to what point humans are to protect animal habitats and things like that. Is it ok to destroy an animal habitat because humans want to live on a golf course? I really don't know. I do think it is clearly a failure to be good stewards of our God-given home when we pollute with trash, chemicals and smog in the name of big money profits though.
I love this. Since I cut out processed food, sugar and gluten I've lost weight and feel so much better, and so does my family. I am going to look into that cookbook... My husband likes me to give him ideas on what to give me for Valentines Day and Mother's Day. Maybe this cookbook would be a good idea! We live in the upper Midwest where many people don't eat healthy and they are overweight and sick. Cancer is rampant here. Cookbooks from the area are recipes with sugary, fatty and processed ingredients...it's also not uncommon to have crop sprayers all around, on land and in the air. If we hear planes going overhead to spray nearby fields, I always keep my daughter and myself inside. We have a couple of air purifiers, but I know they only do so much. There are many days where I'd love to have the windows open, but I can't. It's hard when our land is right next to land being sprayed, especially with windy conditions (it's not all that uncommon to have 40-60 mph winds here) some of the spray always drifts onto our land. In the summer if I know they're close, I'll throw a tarp over our garden, because that is our source of organic produce unless I want to drive 60 miles away, which I sometimes will. But like you said, we do the best we can and leave the rest to God. Lately I've been very convicted that our bodies are indeed temples and we are to take care of them as best as we can.

This is very sad, Katie, that you have to protect yourself so much from the toxic chemical sprays. Can you move away from them? We live in Southern CA and there are so many places to get organic garden fresh fruits and vegetables. I know many supermarkets all over the nation are getting better at supplying organic produce.
We both grew up in this area and my husband has said he'll never move, although I would be open to it. Crop sprayers aren't even supposed to be spraying when it's windy, but some do anyway. It only takes a light breeze to carry those chemicals. I also don't use the clothesline as much as I'd like either. My dad used to mix chemicals and spray apple orchards and other fields back in the 70s without wearing any kind of protection, and while the doctors aren't sure, they think that may have contributed to his developing Parkinson's. He has been studying and researching and there are much higher rates of Parkinson's in this area, and the really sad thing is that several of his friends from my hometown also have Parkinson's. On a recent trip to Denver, my dad said he wishes he could go back and never touch those chemicals. But he also knows maybe he was going to develop Parkinson's regardless... But it does make you wonder. I make sure we take supplements and antioxidants and eat as healthy as possible. There is talk of starting something called Bountiful Baskets, where baskets of organic produce and organic grains can be delivered every two weeks in our area for a fair price. I am hoping and praying for this to go through! I so appreciate your blog and advice on living healthier. I wasn't taught about these things growing up.
I have heard that Parkinsons is due to toxic chemical overload in the body. Many people are overloaded with toxins from drugs, vaccines, pesticides, antibiotics, cleaning products, antiperspirants, makeup, shampoos, etc. There are way too many toxic chemicals in our environment today.

Since my mom got colitis when I was 5 years old, she studied nutrition and thankfully, we were raised knowing all about it. {Unfortunately, it doesn't help much when you get into bad accidents, although my doctor told me I'd probably be a lot worse off if I didn't take such good care of myself.}

Great post! One thing I'll never understand is that so many women use the excuse that they cannot afford to eat healthy or fix their family healthy meals. We are a low income family and eat only whole, natural foods. When you STOP buying frozen pizza, chicken nuggets, sugar cereal, soda, potato chips, canned ravioli, etc, magically you have the money to buy fresh fruit and vegetables and good meats! Most people who say they're going to start eating healthy just ADD the healthy items to their already existing unhealthy grocery cart, instead of REPLACING them...

Cancer and other diseases are often controllable if we control ourselves and what we allow into our bodies and homes. Thank you for the great post.

You're welcome. Great points in your comment!
I'm a sponge, soaking up all this information.
Yes, I do eat healthy but it is great to read others who have gone through or give great advice.
Thank you again. This post is so needed. I think it is sad when Christians are suffering the same (or worse) as the world because of lifestyle decisions. We should be the model of good health because Christians should honor God's creation in all that we do and eat, but instead we feel since it is not a "salvation issue" it doesn't bear fixing. The prayer lists for people with cancer in our church bulletins seems to get longer and longer (and these aren't necessarily people outside of the church). Also it is so hard to find older Christian women who teach the things you do. Many of them are suffering health issues due to years of bad food choices.
Hi Lori,
My husband just told me that studies now prove that women who have had one abortion are 30% more likely to get breast cancer. And for each abortion after that the stats are raised another 20% . I am of the belief that all of the companies set up to raise money for breast cancer and the like are largely a fraud. Only designed to raise money for big pharma and the global elite. Most of our diseases and illnesses can be cured through good, clean eating.

I am very suspect of 'dieticians' these days. One of my daughters needs to gain weight. And is disabled. Instead of encouraging healthy food, they want me to give her highly processed formula and feed her rubbishy food! Great post Lori!
It's been said the cause of cancer is red meat and dairy product. I have watched the 'Food Over Knives' Documentary, and I believe what is being said in that documentary is true. There is this aqcuaintance of mine, his sister developed breast cancer. Her doctor asked her to STOP eating red meat and replace it with loads of fresh fuits and veggies (not sure whether she ate organic or not, I forgot to ask). Anyway, after stopping the red meat consumption, now her cancer is gone.
