A Brand New Home

Ken and I walk around the neighborhood everyday for 45 minutes.  We kill four birds with one stone ~ fresh air, sunshine, exercise and good communication!  As we walk, we pass this home that was terribly abused by its owners.  It was a dump!  I think they were kicked out.

You would be amazed at all the junk they had in their home.  Everything they had was dumped in the front yard and it was all junk.  They had to bring huge dump trucks to get rid of it all.  Now the renovation is going on.  They tented it to get rid of all the termites.  They tore out all the guts of the home and are painting it and putting in all new appliances.  It is fun to go by it every day and see what new things they are doing to fix it up and look pretty again.

Some people think that is what happens when you become a believer.  God gives you a good cleaning out and a renovation.  This process can take many years.  I have to disagree.

According to Scripture, the moment we believe we become a new creation, old things are passed away {II Corinthians 5:17}.  Our old home is completely demolished, including the foundation.  A whole new foundation is set down {Jesus Christ} and on this Rock is built a brand new home!

Our old home was crucified with Christ, buried with Him, we rose again with Him, and are now sitting on the right hand of God {Colossians 2:10-13, Ephesians 2:5,6}.  We have been rescued from the power of darkness and set into the Kingdom of His dear Son {Colossians 1:13}.  The Holy Spirit comes to live in you and gives you the power to live this new life!  It is truly a miracle.

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Galatians 2:20

Wonderful post..I am so thankful to be a new creation in Christ Jesus...
Lori, I agree with you that we are a new creation in Christ. I also really like the analogy of an unsaved person being like a dilapidated junky house. Christ becomes our new owner, so to speak, and begins clearing out the "junk". Revealing to us daily the unrighteous habits or ways of thinking we carry into our saved life. I can bear witness to this work in me over the many years Jesus has been my Savior. And there are still things He will "clean" up in me so I will be more like Him. As I read your testimony of how He worked in your heart to forsake nagging and submit to your husband, I rejoice to see Jesus working to restore what was once your "junky" house. God bless you!
Praising the Lord for this new creation!
I feel like being a Christian is a looong journey. I really can't relate to the "instantaneous newness" that you describe.

I use to not either because I was basing what I believed on my experiences and my feelings instead of on what God's Word said to be true. As I have started truly believing what He says is true, I have started experiencing it in my life. Study Romans 6 and 8 carefully. God tells us that we are freed from sin and dead to sin numerous times. He said we are new creatures in Christ. Start believing what He says about you. ALL of our faith is based upon believing without seeing. Abraham was considered righteous because he believed.
Beautiful metaphor for what God's word says of us once we lay Christ as our cornerstone! I agree that we instantly become a new creation built on solid ground. However, even being a new creation in the Lord doesn't mean we won't be tested, we won't face hardships in our faith, and we won't still be in process. I think that is what sanctification is all about about. Even a brand new home isn't immune to the elements and may need the ultimate Carpenter to clean out the gutters, replace the roof, etc, at times :)

What a great analogy! Thanks for sharing!
Dropping by from the Gratituesday link! I love your use of the house in your post! Perfect! I whole heartly agree with you!
Cindy :)
Such a wonderful metaphor. And I love this walking together you and your hubs do. Such a lovely way to invest in each other.
You're absolutely right ... we just need to make sure we don't start hoarding the trash again.
Blessed Easter,
Felecia
Amen. I think many people think there will be some type of instantaneous transformation. And for some there are. We are all new people in Christ once we are saved, it just takes some people longer to believe it than others.
Great post!
Fantastic post.
I know that I have changed, been cleaned out over the years... I have grown so much in the past 28 years. I think when we give our lives to Christ we give him permission to start the cleaning process... Interesting thoughts. Have a wonderful day.

great post, and a good reminder no one is too far gone for Christ, visiting from Faith filled friday
Interesting house and interesting story. It's certainly true that we become a new creation immediately. I do think He continues to work on us though to make us into what He ultimately wants us to be. Thank you for sharing.
Great post. I especially appreciated your comment to someone that the more you studied then believed God's word, the more your experience caught up with you. What a perfect example of being transformed by the renewing of your mind! Great thoughts and great analogy. Thanks!
Lori...what you said is so true....and just when I think things are going great He shows me something else I need to clean out. but the great thing.....He's always so gentle.....and because of His amazing love.....I want to be uncluttered with me. Happy Easter.
