Malignant Melanoma Scare

We were finally able to celebrate my birthday, three months late!  I love celebrating with my mom, sisters, and Carol.  For all of our birthdays, we go out to lunch and have a wonderful time.

Alisa, the sister on my left, has always eaten fairly healthy but awhile ago, she was diagnosed with malignant melanoma.  This was a wake up call to her to become even more vigilant in taking care of her health.  She studied and realized that cancer has a much less chance of growing in an alkaline body than an acidic one.

As we were leaving the restaurant, I saw someone eating french fries. I told her that is the one thing I miss, french fries and potato chips. She said she doesn't at all anymore once she read how rancid the oil is that is used for making those things and the harm they cause to the body.

After lunch, we went to her home.  She had jars of kombucha she was brewing on her counter.  She had trays of soaked and dehydrated nuts.  In her crock pot was an organic chicken with wonderful smelling seasonings.  In her refrigerator was organic meats, fresh squeezed juices, almond butter, organic vegetable and seed crackers, along with a lot of organic fruit and vegetables.

She has learned that farm raised fish is horrible for you and most wild caught fish is healthy for you.  Meat that is filled with antibiotics and hormones is bad for you, while meat that is from animals that eat food it was meant to eat, like grass, and wasn't shot up with junk, is good for you.

She is taking an intensive course on nutrition and loving it.  She is learning so much.  Her husband is a chiropractor and has always been interested in health.  He loves it that Alisa is now so much more into it also. They enjoy feeding their bodies, along with family and friends, healthy food! She has a food blog that she is slowly adding to if you'd like to check it out! My daughter has a strictly Paleo Blog which has numerous and delicious recipes without gluten, also!

Or do you not know that your body
is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you,
whom you have from God?
You are not your own,
for you were bought with a price.
So glorify God in your body.
I Corinthians 6:19-20

Eye-opening for me was the tip about the oil in which potato chips are fried. *gag* __
Your sister's kitchen sounds like the place to be! I am glad she took her experience to live in a more healthy manner!
A dad I nanny for has a very fair skinned, freckled little boy who sunburns so easily. When he stays with his mom he is fed McDonald's and all sorts of processed junk on a daily basis. When he gets to stay with is dad over the summer for 3 months and is fed a very alkaline, whole food diet they found that he dosen't sunburn AT ALL after a few weeks of consistently being fed good, real food. I wouldn't have beleived it until I saw it but I'm telling you it's true! And after he's back with his mom being fed all of the processed fake foods he starts burning and peeling right away. Food is a powerful healer!

Very interesting, Jamie. I have heard that healthy people don't get skin cancer. Thank you for sharing.

I don't think that that is necessarily true. My grandma grew up on a farm and lived on one til she was in her 70s. She had a cancerous patch removed from her skin and she grew her own veggies etc....Yes eating healthy is one of the more important parts, but our physical environment is much more poisoned than it has ever been and that plays a role too.
You also have to factor in that some people's idea of gardening include a lot of chemicals to produce nicer "fruits: of their labor. It was very common in the 40's & 50's to grow your own food, but the manner in which they grew it was not at all healthy.
Happy very belated Birthday! I can also tell a huge taste difference in grass fed/no hormones beef in particular, and it's absolutely delicious!!
Blessings,
Leslie

Thank you, Leslie. I think all food tastes better the way God created it to be from the beginning without man intervening.
I have been reading a book, Knockout by Susanne Somers. I think she said "some" cancers do well in an alkaline environment. I would recommend this book. Also, it's not good to eat too much meat if you have cancer, especially beef. I hope she does well.
I have been on Bob's Red Mill baking soda to keep alkaline for some time now and will e posting *someday* on that! I use a pH test strip to know where I am on the scale. Meanwhile I will pray and thank the Lord that He has made us so wonderfully and fearfully!! BTW, that sound like our kitchen ;)
I have acid reflux and so I can't eat the way that I used to. The funny thing is, once you cut something out (or don't eat it as often) then you start to lose a craving for it, and sometimes don't even like it anymore!

One of my brothers has cancer. He, too, has changed his lifestyle habits and educated himself. I love that your sister's family has embraced a new healthy eating style!
I lime food and I like to eat..so as much as I want to be more cautious of whatever going inside my body I often just fail. But I do agree with you, organics are probably the best and eating healthy is definitely important!
I have recently been reading about the dangers of vegetable oils and the benefits of coconut oil so I only use that in my cooking now and I'm craving more and more unprocessed and healthy foods now. Eating healthily can be so confusing as there is so much contradicting information. I think if you try and eat as many raw fruit and veg as you can and prepare everything yourself unprocessed you'll go a long way to improving your health. Thank you.
Forks Over Knives is a must see! :)
