Our Disposable Society

We live in a disposable society.  If something breaks, instead of trying to fix it, we throw it away.  If a relationship with a friend becomes broken, we throw the friendship away.  If the marriage is broken, we get out.  If God doesn't fix our life the way we want Him to, we throw Him out too.

We aren't tough anymore.  Fifty years ago, people darned socks when they got holes.  When appliances broke, they took them apart and fixed them.  When marriages were falling apart, they stuck it out until the hard times passed.  When God failed to answer their prayers, they clung to Him anyways knowing He was in control.

Our lack of commitment and willingness to work on fixing things and relationships is destroying our society.  Our landfills are becoming filled with junk.  Our children are motherless and fatherless.  More and more people are walking away from God's ways and doing things their own way thinking that life will be better that way.

Let's become people of hard work and commitment.  Let's not throw things out when they break.  Let's always do all that we can do to fix them, whether stuff or relationships.  Let's stick it out through the rough times and do things God's ways instead of our own way.  Let's do things opposite the way the world does them and become faithful, hard-working, commitment keeping children of God.

Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith.

yes great post indeed.
This reminds me of the parable of the sower & the seed. The seed that fell on the rocky soil sprouted up with joy, but later withered away & died from the relentless hot sun. Jesus said the sun represented persecution& affliction, which causes people to fall away from the faith. Matthew 13. The true Christian hangs in there through the tough times & produces fruits of the Spirit,,,love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, etc. " The road to destruction is wide & many find it, but the road to life is narrow & few find it," said Jesus. I think that explains your observations Lori. I was just thinking about these verses a few hours ago. Love & prayers, in Jesus, Cynthia
Amen!!!!!!! Hope many others read this post! Blessings, Kasey

Great post, Lori.
So true, sadly.
So very true. Loved this post and hate that I see myself so much in it. I so often want to throw in the towel on so many things, including the Lord when I feel he is not helping me. I despise the things in my life that have conditioned me that way. I do love the Lord and strive to follow him but it ain't easy! And my obnoxious sense of entitlement is always rearing its ugly head. Thank you for this great conviction.
We have to work to be faithful and committed because it is who our God is!
Great minds think alike. But you said it better than I ever could! :D
I came across this Navy Seal saying recently: under pressure, you will not rise to the top but sink to the level of your training. That's why we train so hard.

If we are to become a hard working people, we must learn the tools of hard work. So Lori, there is a subject for your blog.
Last year I prayed (hard) that God would give me the strength to get through an illness. When the date of the surgery neared I was filled with fear, wondering if He was going to grant my prayer. What I found out was YES he did! He sent many people from out of nowhere to hold us up during this time and I was comforted beyond my wildest hopes. This taught me that although the prayer wasn't answered the way I thought it would be, it was answered in His way because He knew best. Thank you so much for sharing this post! Thanks for sharing.
