Will You Take This Challenging Pledge?

A late Bible teacher named Russell Kelfer wrote the following challenge for people who wanted to learn to be grateful in this life and recommit to it on a regular basis.  It is so easy to not be thankful, but instead complain and be unhappy since this life gives us so many trials.  I have written out the whole challenge in case any of you want to go from being unthankful to thankful!

Having been born into the kingdom of God, I do hereby acknowledge that God's purchase of my life included all the rights and control of that life for all eternity.

I do further acknowledge that He has not guaranteed me to be free from pain or to have success or prosperity.  He has not guaranteed me perfect health.  He has not guaranteed me perfect parents.  He has not guaranteed me perfect children.  He has not guaranteed me the absence of pressures, trials, misunderstandings, or persecution.

What He has promised me is eternal life.  What He has promised me is abundant life.  What He has promised me is love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness  meekness, and self-control. He has given me all of Himself in exchange for the rights to my life.

Therefore I acknowledge this day the relinquishment of all my rights and expectations, and humbly ask Him by His grace to replace these with a grateful spirit, for whatever in His wisdom He deems to allow for my life.

Maybe print this out and hang it somewhere where you will see it often and be reminded what life is all about so you can keep your life in line with God's purposes for you.

Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father
in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Powerful words! I've been thinking a lot lately, that "love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness meekness, and self-control." are the Fruit of the Spirit; it would seem to follow naturally, to my mind as I work in my garden, that if we want the Fruit of the Spirit in our lives, we must begin with having the spirit in our lives, which comes when we repent and are baptized for the forgiveness of our sins, and we receive the "gift of the Holy Spirit" accortding to Acts 2:38.

This commitment is so important as we truly "walk in newness of life"! God's blessings of love and care by with you today, dear sister Lori, and with all who are striving to follow and please our Lord and Master!
Same here Lori. You are being brought front and center right now with my daily prayers. I'm sharing with Gpd how much your ministry has meant to me. How much I would be thankful to him for restoring your health, so you can continue helping wife's, marriages and families. Strange how we have never talked or physically met and yet I feel so connected. I guess I have to admit there are some pluses to this modern technology. May the peace of Christ be with you and remain always with you. Hugs and love.
Hi Lori! I am coming here from Hear in on Sunday.

Boy, that really puts it in perspective. The Lord has a right to do with us what he needs to do, and I guess it's time I realized that. What an exercise in releasing control! Who doesn't need that.

I am sorry for your health issues, although I don't know what they are. Kathy has alluded to them. I will be adding you to my prayer list, and thanking you for spreading his word, even at this challenging time.

Peace, Sister.

What an awesome reminder this is! Thanks for sharing it..
This post is like a big AMEN to what God is teaching me about surrender right now. Thanks for sharing. :)
St. Augustine said that the only difference between the Christian and the pagan was not the challenges for they both faced the same challenges - but the Christian's faith and hope. It makes all the difference. I like this line: " humbly ask Him by His grace to replace these with a grateful spirit, for whatever in His wisdom He deems to allow for my life." Trying to figure out how to teach this to my boys/men!
