Are You Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist, Etc.?

People frequently ask us what denomination we belong to.  My preference is to say we are Bible believing Christians, period.  I don't really care for the label of denomination.  It seems it divides instead of unites the body of Christ.

Paul states in I Corinthians 1:10, "Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment."

Ken and I have attended a Calvary Chapel the past five years.  Our pastor calls our church "the church without walls."  He has pastors from the nearby churches come and speak, then he encourages us to visit their churches.  He calls our church the "locker room" for it is a place believers come to learn Truth and then go out into the playing field and give others the Truth and be salt and light in our world.

He believes that in every church's mission statement, there should be a statement that says there will be peace among the brethren and we will actively pursue peace with all men.  Having different denominations among believers just seems to divide us whether you are Baptist, Lutheran, Pentecostal, etc.  All those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God who paid the penalty for our sin, died, and rose again so that we can have eternal life are brothers and sisters in Christ.  God's Word is our guide book.  Yes, some will interpret some areas of theology differently but that doesn't mean it should divide us.  We are one body and one church.

So if you want to know what denomination Ken and I go to, it will always be a Bible believing church that doesn't try to avoid certain truths in fear offending some or manipulating His Word to fit into society.  We want to hear Truth as it is written and a church that actively seeks to live out it's high calling from God.

Unity (agreement) is certainly a challenge among Christians, but there is so much diversity among us, that perfect unity is to be achieved only in our future. As I Cor.13 points out, "..our knowledge is imperfect...but when the perfect comes, the imperfect will pass away...For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face...then I shall understand fully." Surely none among us can claim to fully understand God. Our pilgrimage continues!!
I am Church of Christ, one aunt is Assembly of God. We both agree that the time has come to disperse with such arguments. An entire generation is turning away from God, so our fight is with today's evil.
I fully agree with this Lori! Love & prayers, in Jesus, Cynthia
Amen! Scripture pleads with us that there be no divisions (aka denominations) amongst us and Jesus prayed for unity.
Everyone believes his or her church teaches the Truth, but sometimes one man’s Truth is another man’s heresy. Anyone who wishes his or her beliefs and practices be respected should also respect the beliefs and practices of others. The only opinion that truly matters is God’s and He will have the final say.

The common ground for Christians of all stripes remains the Gospel, and if the Gospel is being proclaimed in a church then it doesn’t matter what denomination it chooses to label its doctrine, it is a fellow member of the Body of Christ.
Love this! My husband and I recently moved, and we have decided to attend a church that is not the same denomination (Nazarene) that we both attended our entire life and went to a Nazarene college. It was really, really tough for us to let go of it, but we feel the same way about denominations.

Our new church is just awesome, and we love how they preach from the Bible without worrying of offending someone, yet they LOVE on everyone. The 1st service is currently going over Chip Ingram's Effective Parenting in Defective World sermon series. (BTW have you listened to this? The second on discipline is amazing! He describes step-by-step what Biblical discipline is so you don't have to guess). During the very large group discussion lady shared that this was hard for her to listen to because she does NOT believe in spanking. The pastor handled it so well he said, "Thank you for being brave to share an apposing opinion in the midst of a large crowd that probably doesn't agree. I want you to know that you are among friends and you will be loved however you believe. At this church we preach from the Bible and we will continue to do so."

Also, I am going to a Titus 2 group that I thought of you the 1st week I attended. They have mentor moms and boy to they preach Biblical marriage. I'm so excited to be attending a church that preaches directly from the Bible on all subjects.
