Duggars Don't Fit Into the World's System

The Duggars look different than the world. They have a ton of children and they are all happy children. They are well-disciplined and kind children. They don't dress as the world dresses. They aren't entertained as the world is entertained. They don't kiss until the day they marry and their goal is to be completely pure for their future husbands and wives. They allow God to decide how many children they will have. They home school their children. They don't try to fit into the world's system.

The Duggars don't care about fitting in with society. They only care about pleasing the Lord. They are reaping beautiful fruit from doing things God's ways. The joy on the children's faces can be seen by all. They enjoy each other and love having a big family.

I know they get mocked and ridiculed by many. There are even websites set up to speak evil about them. I love what Phil Robertson said when asked about all the hate being spewed out about him after his controversial statements. He said he didn't care since he had no idea what any one was saying about him. He doesn't watch television or go on the Internet!

We must not care what the world says about us. We must not try to fit in with the world's system to win them to the Lord. The world would rather see Puritans than hypocrites. They want to see that our faith makes a difference. If our faith doesn't make a difference, it is a worthless faith.

It is more important to the Duggar family to please the Lord than to please society. We should all strive to be this way in all areas of our lives. It may not look like the Duggars. We all have to come to our own conclusions based upon biblical teachings but the Bible is very clear that we are to hate what is evil and cling to what is good. We are to be modest, pure, keepers at home, and obedient to our husbands. We are also commanded to be thankful and joyful so we will shine like stars in a crooked and perverse generation.

For many walk, of whom I often told you, and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ, whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, and whose glory is in their shame, who set their minds on earthly things. For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Philippians 3:18-20

I am so thankful for the example that the Duggars set. I have certainly learned a lot from their show and books! They've definitely challenged me in many ways, including making sure that I am always seeking to please the Lord rather than man.

I agree, Lindsey. I sure wish a show had been on like their's when I was newly married and just beginning to have children. It is difficult to find godly examples to follow. I am very thankful for them and their ministry.
I have so much respect and admiration for the Duggars! I'm just in awe by Michelle's patience and how she lovingly disciplines her children. It's upsetting to hear all the hateful comments towards their family, often times from Christians. I really believe God convicts Christians differently on matters of style, and we should support those convictions of they are not contrary to scripture even if they are different from our personal convictions. I remember watching one time when Jim Bob was explaining that they do not believe wearing skirts is a sin issue, but it is something their family was personally convicted of early on. I wonder if God convicted them on this issue knowing that they would be famous in the future and the example that would be.

I doubt they would have ever dreamed they would have been so famous when they came to those convictions, Brit. I think they just feel wearing dresses is more modest and feminine for women!
Your blog, (Ken's comments) and the Duggars are all examples of living in the Spirit for God and not of this world.
Let the light shine on!

Yes, with Christ ALL things are possible! There is no greater ONE to live for. Thank you, Christine.
Thank you for this Lori! I so needed this this morning. I was struggling with 'fitting in' (or not really) with other parents of my son's sports teams. We are different and God is so good to remind me that is the way I am supposed to be. Thank you for continuing to post and allow God to use you to minister to so many. I appreciate the Duggar's example as well.

We should be different than the world, Heidi. It is a good thing and hopefully, they will see Jesus living through us and be drawn to Him since this is our purpose in life; to bring glory to His name!
I'm on the same page with you this a.m. Lori! Love the Duggars & believe they are Godly examples for believers. I also landed in Philippians thinking about "whose God is their belly"(regarding weight loss in my mind). This verse caught my eye: Philippians 1:28 "...in no way, alarmed by your opponents-which is a sign of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, & that too, from God." I see a lot of fear & alarm lately & I think God simply does not want us to be afraid, of anything but Him. I don't like to be afraid, so this caught my attention today. Love & prayers, in Jesus, Cynthia

I was just studying Philippians today, Cynthia. This is why I changed the verse on my post after it was published! I thought this verse fit so much better. I agree with you. When we are fearful, we are not trusting the Lord. We must rest in Him.
I find the Duggars so inspiring and i respect them and the Robertsons so much. What you wrote about them seeking to please the Lord and not men have just really hit home with me. Sometimes I feel like I am on a slippery slope with fitting in. Especially with hostile relatives who mock us and our choices. Your blog is wonderful, even if I don't agree....but I agree with everything you have said so far. :0)

Thank you, Christy! Just continue to match up your life with the Word instead of the world.
I enjoy the Duggars show and watch it whenever I can. They set a good example for everyone with their beliefs.

They sure do! You have a beautiful blog.
We must have 50 hours of Duggars recorded on the DVR. Both of our kids, but especially our daughter love watching the show. The show really encourages her and honestly it improves her attitude when she has a tough day because she sees and is influenced by the godly role models and it just helps back mom & dad up! I've only watched a half dozen shows myself but I like what I see in how my young daughter reacts and responds to the show. They must throw in just enough boy stuff to keep our son willing to watch...as long as there are now wedding or courting scenes! He's out there on those episodes!

Just this week they had some kind of car racing in cars they built themselves and rode down ramps. Since there are lots of Duggar boys, they have lots of boy stuff! I love watching how they deal with the whole courting thing. So happy you two are back to blogging! I always enjoy reading both of your writings.
That is so powerful! I absolutely love that. God is good and we shouldn't care what others think or say. I can't believe that people actually say bad things about the Duggars, that's just crazy.
