Praying Over Your Neighborhood

There have been four neighborhoods I have lived in since I was a child.  Before I moved to this neighborhood, none of my neighborhoods were that good.  There was a lot of divorce.  I didn't know many of my neighbors.  Some of my neighbors were mean and unhappy.  Many of the children grew up to be rebellious.

We moved into this neighborhood over 15 years ago.  I decided long ago to pray consistently over it.  In my mind, I go around from house to house, naming the couple that lives in each house, and asking the Lord that they would believe in Him.  I ask that His Spirit will move mightily in this neighborhood.  I ask for protection over the marriages.

This is an amazing neighborhood.  God is so faithful.  There has only been one divorce that I know of on my whole street.  The majority of the children have grown up to be hard-working adults.  The marriages seem happy and strong.  There is a lot of warmth among the neighbors.  Every one gets along.  Every one takes good care of their home and front yard.  Every one is considerate of others.  It is truly amazing!

I am not sure if it is coincidence or the power of prayer but I prefer to think it is the power of prayer because my neighborhood is very unique.  God is good and He does answer prayer.  I encourage you to make it a priority to pray consistently over your neighborhood.  While you are at it, pray over our nation also.  If He can change a neighborhood, He can surely change a nation!

And he told them a parable to the effect
that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.

This is a great way to pray and your prayers have availed much! I appreciated reading this and I plan to pray for my neighbors (both near and far) also. May God bless you with peace, love, joy, hope, prosperity, and great health in 2013 and the years to come.

Thank you so much, Beth!
It's encouraging to read someone share this. I have been praying for my neighbors for years and it can get discouraging to not see fruit. Hopefully God is at work regardless and I have been very ready to move away. Been living here for 10 1/2 yrs and have seen some come and go and a few pass away.

He is definitely at work, Tracy, whether or not we can see it or not. He promises to hear the prayer of a righteous man {woman} so I am sure He hears you.
Great idea! I pray for the neighbors I know but I never thought of praying for them all. What a difference it could make!

Another added benefit is always remembering their name since you pray for them so often!
Thank you for sharing this. When my husband and I first bought our home 11 years ago, our neighborhood was quite ideal: a dead end street, his parents across the way, elderly neighbors. It was a great place to start our family (I was pregnant at the time). Now, we are the only original homeowners on our street. All of the elderly people have passed away. Many homes are rental houses. And I can pretty much guarantee that 3 of the 9 houses are drug houses. It is no longer ideal. I pray for our neighborhood, but not like I should. I love how you have made the commitment to pray for your neighborhood.

This same thing has happened to a very good friend of mine. Your neighborhood definitely needs prayers. God is the God of the impossible!
This reminds me of what my mother used to do.

My mother and a group of ladies from our neighborhood used to weekly walk around our school and pray for the school, kids, teachers, etc.

They also had a very active PTA that was able to reach out and help kids who were struggling. There were some kids from a family with limited income and the ladies got money together to purchase shoes and coats and school supplies for them. I was so blessed having a Mom who prioritized her kids and prayed for us. By the way she left a very promising career to pour into us, our schools, and our communities.

What an amazing mother you had!!! It sounds like your neighborhood, school, teachers, etc. were very blessed to have her in their lives.
Wow what a wonderful idea. Why didn't I think of that? I hope lots of people read this and begin to follow your example. i intend to.
Blessings,
Charlotte
What a lovely idea and wonderful encouragement. Thank you. Have a blessed week.
we never know what someone's going through. Great idea...
How blessed your neighbors are. Prayer is a powerful weapon against evil.
How faithful to continue praying for your neighborhood. Only one divorce is something most neighborhoods don't have. Prayer changes things--and us!
