My Healthy, Happy Mom

My mom celebrates her 82nd birthday today. She has no aches or pains.  She has no arthritis or achy joints.  This is pretty much unheard of in an 82 year old woman.  She has always believed in the value of an alkaline body.

She had colitis when I was five years old and went on all organic fruits and vegetables.  The doctors told her it was incurable {they still say the same thing today}, yet her colon has been completely healthy for many years.

She drove a half hour each way down to a health food store to get cases of organic fruits and vegetables.  She fed us healthy our whole lives and you can tell by looking at her that she looks amazing for 82!

She has been an incredible mother and grandmother.  She disciplined us when we were growing up.  We knew she meant what she said.  All our friends loved coming to our home because she always made them feel so welcome.

She is always looking for a good time.  She loves taking all of us out to lunch and a movie.  If we are doing anything fun, she wants to be included.  She is generous and kind.  She has never worried about the future, or anything for that matter, but believes good will happen since God is in control.  I am very blessed to have such a wonderful mother.

I read this in my devotional today and I thought of her ~

This is the blessed life ~ not anxious to see far down the road nor overly concerned about the next step, not eager to choose the path nor weighted down with the heavy responsibilities of the future, but quietly following the Shepherd, one step at a time.

Who can find a virtuous woman?
She is far more precious than jewels...
Strength and honor are her clothing,
and she can laugh at the time to come.

Proverbs 3:19. Excellent
Happy birthday to such a good role model to so many. What a blessing to have her health .. and I'm sure she worked hard restoring and keeping it with God's 'medicine' of whole foods.
She sounds like a wonderful woman! I'm sure not worrying helped her stay younger, too. :)
Happy birthday to her:)!! I completely agree about the alkaline way of eating. As I study nutrition I am learning the healthiest people eat this way. I am sure her heart for God kept her young too. I pray God continue to bless her and fill her with joy.
You are very blessed to have such a healthy lovely mother. Whilst my mother (80 years old) did all those healthy things (as we lived on a farm it was easier to obtain organic food), an intelligent woman and a wonderful dedicated Christian woman, she has suffered a major stroke that has mean she is now living in a nursing home and has a variety of other illnesses. It shows that we don’t know what might happen to us, no matter how much we do right – it is Gods will. Enjoy your mothers company for as long as possible.
beautiful, what a lovely post to read :) Tara (The Proverbs 31 Sanctuary)
I can attest to her great kindness and care, as I one of those friends who came over many times and was showered with her love and warm attention. She was the first to introduce me to the "avocado sandwich with sprouts", which at the time was almost revolutionary. She looks so radiant in that photo. I send her my love and admiration!
This is so lovely what a great post
She is beautiful & glowing for 82!! What a beautiful testament of her mothering! Hope your week is grand & your mother's too~smile~
Your Mom looks AH-MAZING for her age! I would never had guessed she was 82. She looks about 20 years younger than that!

My grandma is 83 and doesn't look her age either. She credits that to being raised on a farm and eating stuff grown from the garden and eating the animals that were raised on the grass in the pasture.

I'm starting to see why my husband wants to own a farm one day.
His grandma did and she lived to be 81 and she always had the BEST tasting food because she always grew the best garden and bought the best stuff if she couldn't grow it herself.

And there is no mistaking that you two ladies are related! ;-)
I hope I look as great as your Mom does when I'm 82!
amazing! how do you get your husband and kids on the bandwagon for healthy eating?

Thank you to everyone for your kind comments concerning my mom. I called her last night and told her about them so she was going to go to her computer and try and figure out how to read the comments! :)
She is truly stunning and I can only hope to be that lovely at 82. Thanks for all your tips and info on healthy eating. I consider our family to eat healthy but you have added a lot of things to consider.
Stopping by from Imperfect Prose....what a great story of how your mom encouraged you through her example. What a blessing for your family to have that as part of your legacy. Be blessed!
