Healing Without Drugs

Starting when our son was around three years old, he would get poison ivy every summer.  We had it in our backyard somewhere and he would swell up like a balloon. He could barely see through his eyes. He wasn't that uncomfortable but it wasn't fun.I didn't want to take him to the doctor because I knew they would put him on steroids. I took him off all sugar and gave him warm oatmeal baths. Every summer, he would break out with it but each summer it would get less and less until he didn't break out with it anymore. His body had developed immunity to it.

My daughter burned her foot pretty severely when she was around six years old. When I was able to pull the heating pad off of her foot, a big chunk of skin came off with it. I sat her on my bed and got a big junk of fresh aloe out of our back yard {as you see in the picture above} and for four days just kept putting fresh aloe on her foot. On the fifth day, the skin was pink and pretty. Neighbors told me I should have taken her to the ER because she could have gotten an infection.

I never immunized my children. They never had asthma or allergies. I rarely gave them any drugs. They had strong immune system. One man that was at my home today said that three of his four children have really bad asthma. I asked him if they were immunized. He told me they were.

I don't know, but it seems all these vaccinations, drugs, and antibiotics are wreaking havoc with the immune system. They destroy the friendly flora in the gut and that leads to all kinds of disease. When I was growing up, no one had allergies, asthma, or autoimmune diseases. Dr. Oz had another doctor on his show and they said one of the first things they learn in medical school is that ALL drugs are toxic to the human body and have side effects. Diet and lifestyle should be addressed before any drugs are ever given!

Study nutrition. Be smart. Be educated. Just because your doctor tells you to do something, don't just do it. Drugs are powerful agents. Know the benefits and side effects before giving them to your children. My dad almost died from an antibiotic. Keep your immune system strong. That is your best defense!

I turned my heart to know and to search out
and to seek wisdom and the scheme of things.
Ecclesiastes 7:25

Amen! We don't vaccinate, I believe there is much more to worry about with vaccines than just the aluminum/mercury/autism Debate. It is so much better to treat things holistically then pump our bodies full of drugs.

I completely agree, Michelle. People run to the doctor for every little thing now instead of trusting in their body's ability to heal itself.
I started following a selective/delayed vaccination schedule with my son when he was born. It was not until he was three months old and had a nasty reaction to the HIB shot to where I stopped vaccinating all together. I did more research and checked out VAERS (where his case was added) and researched more and more studies and cases of children being injured by vaccination. My son later did develop Autism, but in his case I do not think it was from the vaccines.

We as parents need to be vigilant about the drugs that are being put into our children- whether natural or pharmaceutical. In some cases both are the better alternative.

We do need to research before giving our children drugs. i just always encourage parents to at least educate themselves. The drug companies have a lot of power these days.

You are so smart. I wish I would have done that. I gave both of my sons the chicken pox shot because 3 different doctors told me I should. The boys were 10 and 12 and I was told that if they get chicken pox as a older person it is much worse. Well, I have felt guilty about that for 11 years now. One year later, one of my sons developed type 1 diabetes. I have always wondered if I did that to him because I agreed to that shot.

I think it is very sad that doctors are vaccinating against common childhood diseases that the majority of children survived. They have no idea what the long term consequences of the vaccines are. They truly believe vaccines are the way to go, however.

Don't beat yourself up about it, Sheila. You did what you thought was best and God promises to work all things together for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. You love Him and are called so He WILL work it out for good! Trust Him!
Amen! Vaccines are not medicine, they are not vitamins, they are not herbals...they are chemicals.

We cannot inject brand new babies with multiple chemicals, and continue to do so for years and years, and expect that nothing will happen neurologically to their developing brains, or to their immune systems.

We are incredibly blessed that neither my husband nor I have any health issues, and all of our 6 children are free of any food allergies, asthma, autism, etc. It seems unheard of to meet children today that don't have severe food allergies, or asthma, chronic illness, etc. While I give all the credit to God Almighty, and realize that there is only so much we can control, I do believe taking the steps to allow the body to heal itself, and ward off illness the way it was designed to do keeps people overall much healthier than pumping it full of antibiotics, vaccines, and drugs.

God Bless!

Amen, sister! I feel incredibly blessed to have been raised by a mother that knew the importance of good nutrition. Her mother raised 7 children without ever taking any of them to the doctor! She knew the incredible healing power of the immune system and always fed them a lot of REAL food.
My 2.5 year old burned her foot a few months back, and we treated it with lavender and honey! You wouldn't believe how quickly it healed. (A recommendation from a good friend of ours who is a homeopathic doctor.)

Each of our kids have have one or two vaccines, but I'm terrified of giving them any. The side effects from them seem worse than some of the diseases they are preventing! It is hard though, because this culture makes you feel like you are a neglectful/irresponsible "hippie" if you don't vaccinate. As a young mother I will admit it is a little hard for me to have confidence in this decision. But my husband was raised by parents who didn't vaccinate, so they help me feel much better about it.

Thanks for this post!

I am much more afraid of drugs than disease. There are many deaths every year from side effects from them. One has to be careful in weighing all the options.
Tiffany,

I understand the results of fear mongering on a mama! My parents are highly supportive of our "natural" choices (homebirth, no vax'ing, open to life, homeschooling, etc) because they've become more educated since I was young...we rarely went to the Dr or anything, and were very healthy, but they grew up mainstream, so I mostly did, as well. However, my husbands side are all medical minded. We catch so much flack you wouldn't believe it. Thankfully, we live far away from all the dissent!

Years ago, when I decided with our oldest (15 currently) that he would have no other vaccines besides the couple he received initially, I left the pediatrician's office in tears TWICE...twice! Not over something significant..but over a Dr browbeating me for the chicken pox vaccine!

It was after that where I really started to research even further..and realized why they are so ticked..the FDA and the AAP and the CDC have so much to lose if we choose health over medicine. It was then that I re-evaluated WHY I was doing "well child" visits with mainstream practitioners, when my children were healthy..and doctors are for the sick. Since that time, our children have gone to the Dr a total of 3 times in their combined lives.

I don't do well-child visits at all, because why should I sit there and be treated as if I am ignorant, neglectful and a hippie? I choose not to vaccinate not because I am ignorant, or too poor for shots, or any other reason except conviction that it is the right thing to do. I breastfeed for immunity and health, and while most ped's recommend that, they have no problem offering advice on formula..it's all backwards!

As the gatekeeper of the home, I use overall health and wellness, and natural medicine to boost health and to cure minor illness. In the event of bigger issues, I consult a naturopath who is also a DO, so can go either route (traditional medicine or natural) as a health care partner with our family.

Anyway, all this was just to encourage you because I understand, and also to say maybe avoid Dr's unless someone truly needs one (and if they do, that's a huge blessing that we can have excellent medical care in our nation without waiting lists at least at this point) and maybe you can avoid some stress and browbeating, too!

God Bless you and be confident! God gave you all the equipment you need to parent and make intelligent health care choices your blessings!
We only use doctors for emergency situations which they are great for but not for chronic conditions or to try and stay healthy.
Thank you! :) You're so right. One thing that really bothers me, is that if there is an "outbreak" of whooping cough or anything else, it's all over the news....And parents who choose not to vaccinate are being slammed right and left. But you NEVER hear of kids who get sick or die as a result of a vaccine. When I had my last baby back in August, the nurse tried so hard to talk me into getting the whooping cough vaccine (I declined). But it was so hard in my post-partum exhaustive state to even think straight. Later when I thought of how much they had pressured me, I was mad about it. Anyway....Thanks for the encouragement! :)
I completely agree with you! My hubs and I eat all natural and organic. You have inspired me to keep it up and get even better once we start having babies!

Preparing to have children is a great time to start getting healthy. You want healthy babies!

My husband and I had our children vaccinated. No problems, no autism, asthma, ADD, ADHD etc. I do believe it's all in your own convictions. My husband and I (and the children) travel frequently around the world spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ, it would be unwise to not be vaccinated.

I do believe that a lot of the diseases and conditions are caused by the chemical laden fruits, veggies, meat, poultry, and sugars people ingest daily. (and the rise of the fast food nation) Not to mention certain types of fish with high levels of mercury in it.

As for well-baby and well-child visits. I don't allow myself to be bullied by doctors. I'm educated and know a thing or two, and I question the doctors. My family is very fortunate we all see Christian doctors.

Yes, it should always be left to the decision of the parents and not the doctors. You are very blessed to have Christian doctors!
A couple years ago (when I was 21) I was diagnosed with RA. I was bedridden for about 8 months with excruciating pain in all of my major joints, and I refused standard medical treatment because I felt that the side effects of conventional medications outweighed the possible benefits. Instead, I drank lots of raw milk (a treatment used by the founders of the Mayo Clinic), slept, drank bone broths, ate raw liver and oysters and anything else recommended by the Weston A. Price Foundation. I avoided all supplements except for fermented cod liver oil because supplements also cause damage to the liver and kidneys. On Saturday I just finished my first year back at college with pain that only returns when I am tired. Even this is not nearly as much as before.

Although I was willing to endure months of pain and the uncertainty of ever feeling better, most people do not have that mental fortitude. My doctors told me that I would end up crippled and in a wheel chair if I did not go on the drugs. It was a mental, physical and psychological uphill battle. Healing is slow and there are a lot of ups and downs. The physical pain is difficult, but the emotional aspect makes it way worse. My parents fought relentlessly over my chosen treatment - my dad wanted me on the drugs, my mom supported my decision. They have always had a very harmonious marriage, but this experience almost destroyed it. Illness is stressful for everyone involved, and when choosing a natural approach to healing, you have to be prepared for tension (mild way of putting it) in previously happy relationships. In many ways, I felt like I was choosing my own health over personal relationships.

Finally, it is easy to be lead down false paths with unsubstantiated claims about supplements, diet (not all are created equal) or some new "natural" treatment. It is important to be skeptical of the source and to not be afraid of what the scientific data says.

Cheers!
I think I can understand not vaccinating for usually mild childhood illnesses like chicken pox. But my mom had Polio in 1953, just a few years before the vaccine was invented. She is unable to walk without assistance (i.e. braces/crutches). I'm so thankful that I don't have to worry about my son dying or having permanent disabilities from a serious disease that was eradicated because of a vaccination. At the risk of being accused of fear-mongering, I personally can't help but worry that if enough people chose not to vaccinate their children, Polio and other life-threatening diseases could be reintroduced into the United States. I know I'm a few days late in responding to this post, but Lori, I'm sure you and your parents know how devastating Polio is. Any comments? Thanks.

This is a good article about vaccines. I believe most of those diseases cleared up with improved sanitation and clean water. If these vaccines are contributing to rising cancer and autoimmune diseases, I don't think they are worth the risk.
I think that our medical community has certainly gone overboard with all the vaccines they foist on parents. I was lucky to have a wonderful pediatrician who told me that the chicken pox vax was mainly a convenience for working parents who don't have time to nurse a sick kid. I had all the major vaccines done, but I'm not buying into the later ones. If I were to do it over again -- not sure what I would do!

It sounds to me like you would love essential oils! Have you tried them before? So powerful, and so wonderful. They have empowered me to take control of my family's healthcare in such a healthy, natural way. I highly recommend them1
