Fake Food = Fake Health

Do you know what is in the food you are eating?  If you are like the typical American family, the food you are eating isn't real food.  It is fake food.  If you eat fake food, you will have fake health.

I was watching a movie about the food Americans eat and it stated that you could eat 10,000 calories a day and your body could still be starving.  Most food Americans eat has no nutritional value that the body desperately needs.

You wonder why cancer is becoming more and more common.  I was following the treatment of a young boy getting cancer treatments.  They put him in a hospital room, under fluorescent lights, filled him with a ton of toxic chemicals and then I read he was eating donuts and drinking soda.  Crazy! It seems he should be in as much fresh air as possible, getting some sunlight and exercise, and eating fresh, organic foods, thus building up his immune system.

All processed food {almost everything in a box} is detrimental to your health.  If you read the label and can't understand the ingredients, don't eat a lot of it.  This is why I decided to stop eating candy very often, except chocolate, of course.  All of the ingredients are chemicals.

They have discovered that diet sodas and caffeine are causing numerous diseases including Alzheimer's, neurological disorders, etc.   Read the label on sodas.  There is nothing nutritious in them.  To think you can drink or eat anything you want without it affecting your health is foolish. According toDr. Mercola, aspartame {artificial sweetener} is one of the most dangerous chemicals in our food ~

Aspartame accounts for over 75 percent of the adverse reactions to food additives reported to the FDA. Many of these reactions are very serious including seizures and death. A few of the 90 different documented symptoms listed in the report as being caused by aspartame include:

Headaches/migraines, dizziness, seizures, nausea, numbness, muscle spasms, weight gain, rashes, depression, fatigue, irritability, tachycardia, insomnia, vision problems, hearing loss, heart palpitations, breathing difficulties, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, loss of taste, tinnitus, vertigo, memory loss, and joint pain.

Start taking control of your health and eat real food.  God knew what He was doing when He created food for us.  Trust Him.  He didn't create food with a bunch of antibiotics, preservatives, and man-made hormones.  As my mom used to say, "God didn't make no ding dongs!"

Eat food that goes bad after a few days.  If it last for a long time, it isn't good for you.  Be wise.  Be educated and start taking control of your health, but always remember that relationships with others and loving God is way more important that what you eat!

Give me neither poverty nor riches,
Feed me with the food that is my portion.
Proverbs 30:8

We try to eat so well in our home, but I have never given up diet soda. I got a mysterious case of vertigo about one month ago and was told it is probably age related. I am wondering now if it's the aspartame that has caused it. I am always torn with God telling us not to worry about what we eat or drink ~ but I know he also gave us common sense and surely he did not give us this sweetener.

We have been eating much healthier at our house for about the last 8 months, and I have noticed a big difference! (Have to admit that I do eat chocolate sometimes! I love dark chocolate!) I feel so much better and have so much more energy since our meals have become healthier though. Question - what do you think about frozen vegetables? I am guilty of buying the bags of frozen veggies because they are so convenient.

I don't always buy organic for financial reasons, but I read labels diligently and also buy local produce. I think the US should follow suit of the EU and make labeling of GMO ingredients mandatory by law.

We are moving to buying more real foods and far less than comes in something!! I want most of the groceries spent on fresh veg and fruit + meat/eggs etc and very little on anything that has one of those labels (or certainly labels with lots of long words on!).

It can be hard at times but certainly not impossible. We are also buying more organic as I can. I have just started to remove processed sugar and replacing it with raw honey or maple syrup and I really like the differences. And we have now moved to organic milk and eggs. Sadly it all costs more.

Americans eat too much cheaply made food because they are STARVING and addicted. People have the money for TV and cell phones and don't blink at paying outrageous cable TV bills, but to spend $ on quality food they seem to be lacking the cash. Garbage in garbage out healthwise. We rarely buy anything processed. Learn how to make basic foods and change up the recipe with seasonally available foods. GMO's are a nightmare. Good post.

It is such a terrible thing if we don't read the label on food. I try to buy and prepare fresh meal every day.

Love this..."eat food that goes bad in a few days"...Sometimes I think that is such an inconvenience, but I know that you are right.

When we were struggling financially the first thing that I did was lower our food budget to $60 per week for our family of 4. We weren't eating much differently, but I was very careful and made almost everything from scratch.

Thankfully we're not in that position any longer and we now realize the importance of good food. Once I stopped eating sugar/wheat my hypoglycemia issues disappeared (so did the ever present dark circles under my eyes.

Lori, what is your take on eating meat? I would never cut it out completely, but lately I have been trying to have less of it and focus on having more veggies in my diet (I'm single, so this just applies to me right now). Before I started, I was having some kind of meat at every meal, but now I try to keep it down to about twice a week. I also have tofu sometimes. What are your thoughts on meat consumption? What do you do for your family?

I cannot tell you how many times I've heard someone say, "I want to lose weight, be healthier, and feel better", but they refuse to stop eating "fake" food. It blows my mind.

Great post, Lori. Have a blessed day!

Just found your blog through the Frugally Sustainable link up and am I ever glad! Wonderful article and very spot on. I love the comments too. I also think God had a hand in where your post landed on that FS page, as 3 posts prior to yours was a couponing one that was filled with junk food. People have such a misconception of what real healthy food is. I look forward to reading more on your blog! :)
God Bless!
A friend of mine has MS and she told me that she had to stop drinking diet pop as it made her symptoms worse. She had more trouble with her balance when she drank it, and her walking and balance improved when she stopped. Same thing happened to a couple of her friends in her MS support group, so I believe it!

Thank you so much for linking up to Making Your Home Sing Monday. You did forget to put a courtesy link back to my blog though, lol! ;0)
My six year old daughter is a cancer survivor. She had leukemia. I was shocked at what we were told to feed her when she was going through treatment! We were told she could have anything processed because we didn't have to worry about bacteria, but we had to limit her fruit and vegetable intake. It was really shocking--very sad!
So many of my friends drink 'diet soda' like it's water. I cringe when I think of all the artificial sweeteners they're pouring into their bodies.
