The Huge Benefit of Sanitation!

As many of you know, we did not immunize our children.  My grandmother had seven children and refused to put that "poison" {as she called it} into her children's bodies.  Ken and I researched everything we could find on the topic before making our decision.  The thing that convinced us the most was the following ~

It is well documented that the increase in lifespan in Americans over the past 200 years is not at all from modern medicine but from better sanitation practices (sewage not being dumped in the streets) and from better, cleaner water quality. {Dr. Richard Schulz}

We believed a healthy body was the key to having great health, not medicine.  Medicine is great in emergency situations, but not for keeping you healthy.  Have you listened to those drug commercials lately?  The side effects go on and on and are very scary.

Lots of sunshine, fresh air, organic food the way God created it, and exercise creates health not drugs.  My dad almost died from taking an antibiotic.  The body can fight almost any infection if it is healthy.  It does a much better job than drugs do.

Dr. Schulz has seen many people cured from diseases that doctors gave them no hope of curing.  He puts them on juices and cleanses.  When you are very sick, you need to be very extreme in getting healthy.  Once you are healthy, you don't have to be so careful and can cheat a little.

Our society suffers from disease of wealth, not poverty.  Heart disease, cancer, diabetes, arthritis, autoimmune diseases, etc. are  usually diseases from overeating and eating the wrong kinds of food.  We are killing ourselves with our forks, not lack of clean water and sanitation.

So praise God every time you can flush a toilet or get into a nice bath with clean water.  These are the small things that we take for granted but are the main reason we don't get the diseases of the past.  We are living in the richest nation in the history of the world.  Start being thankful for everything including amazing bodies that heal themselves and a medical community that helps us in times of true crisis.

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made:
marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
Psalm 139:14

I completely agree with you! My children are not vaccinated, either. I just didn't feel like the risks outweighed the (supposed) benefits. Great insight!
I strongly disagree with you on vaccination and at this stage it isn't a problem as enough of the population is vaccination. Let hope the balance doesn't swing too far as I don't think we ever want to see Polio or any of there other killers return. It saves lives and that is proven.

The incidents of Polio was already heavily on the decline when Salk found the vaccination. Again, sanitation and clean food/water supplies are what helped the most. A lot of people also developed Polio from the vaccine.
I love when you talk about this stuff, because my husband and I have decided against vaccinating our kids but there is so much pressure! The way you put it completely makes sense. My grandma (99 years old) is also adamantly against vaccines and believes they are bad for us. I just feel like this is something I can't talk about with people or in social settings because most of the people I know would think we were crazy! Thanks! :)

Agreed - people look at us like we're bad parents setting our kids up for dreaded diseases because we have chosen to not vaccinate anymore. I say anymore because with our first 4 we did, but we've heard too much & researched & realize the dangers outweigh the benefits. We love our kids & this was not a decision taken lightly. It was a decision made with much prayer & our kids' well-being in mind!
"The body can fight almost any infection if it is healthy" - there is the key Lori, we must treat our bodies in a way that honors the Lord (I'm working on this daily...!). Very interesting topic!

I have a slightly different viewpoint since I'm around children A LOT! When they have colds or whatever I refuse to be afraid of the germs thinking a little germs makes my immune system overall stronger! We do know that once you got the measles for example, you didn't have to worry about it again. I do think they overuse vaccinations & give some when not necessary, like when the disease is erradicated. I agree with a healthy diet & cleanliness helping alot. Ultimately our health is from the Lord & we should always thank Him as well as pray about taking good care of our bodies. Love & prayers, in Jesus, Cynthia
Cynthia, you are right when you say they are overused. I have an infant, and if I followed the AAP's recommended vaccine schedule, she would be getting pumped full of several different vaccines at each appointment (they combine them so there are only 3 or so shots, but a few "diseases" in each one.) And I would be all for vaccines if all they did was prevent an illness. But it doesn't take much researching to find out about all the toxic chemicals that are in vaccines.
Also, I was looking at my own vaccination card from when I was a kid. I was given probably a fourth of the vaccines that my kids "should" be getting. Think of the rates of autism and many other mental and health issues that have been on the rise. I know a link hasn't been proven, but it does make you think.
My babies have been exceptionally healthy, without even the little colds, fevers, ear aches, that many babies get. I attribute that to no vaccinations and exclusively breastfeeding them.

Thank you for sharing this interesting view point!
We do not vaccinate either. I agree with the "poison" standpoint. We lead as healthy a lifestyle as we can, understanding a strong, healthy body that is loaded up with probiotics and is not acidic keeps you immune to bacteria/viruses. Probiotics are 80% of our body's immunity. And anything that is caught can be treated. So do you risk the miniscule potential of an acute illness that can be treated or a lifetime of chronic illness? Drs. that really understand how God designed our bodies to work, not just drs. that are pumped full of what Big Pharma wants them to believe, have all advised to avoid vaccinating. No way would I put them in my babies' bodies.
I don't plan on vaccinating once I have kids either. I mean, when the doctor gives you a shot of Coumadin...or Morphine...or Heparin...you KNOW what you're getting and it's easy to find out just how it will affect you. But when they inject a "vaccine"....well, how many of us know exactly what chemicals make up that vaccine? We assume it's just the disease fighter....but what if there's more?

At the risk of sounding like an alarmist, how do we know whether they are adding other things to the disease fighting drugs and using us all as lab rats? I think there is a huge relationship (again, not to sound alarmist) between the number of kids with autism and the number of adults who struggle with fertility issues. I truly believe (with no evidence, of course) that it's gotta be something they stick us with.
