A Diet Rich In Truth

Do your children walk in truth?  Do they know Jesus and His love for them?  Do they know all the promises God has made for them if only they believe in Him?  One of the main jobs you have as a parent is to make sure your children know Jesus.

Every evening before dinner, you could have a promise box filled with all of God's promises.  Everyone takes one and reads it aloud.  This way your children will be able to hear all the wonderful promises God has made to them in His Word and be reminded of them consistently.

While they are eating breakfast, read them a chapter of Proverbs.  There are 31 chapters in Proverbs so there is one for every day of the month.  They will fill your children's minds with godly wisdom.

Take them to a church program like Awana.  My children went every week and learned a ton of Bible verses.  God's Word never comes back void.  They loved going to Awana!

Make sure church is a huge part of their lives.  I knew every Sunday morning we would go to church.  It was a part of my life.  We raised our children going to church every Sunday so they all continue going to church now that they are all grown.

The most important thing for you to do, however, is to model Jesus to your children.  Love them earnestly, be patient, kind, and disciplined.  As they see you loving your husband, friends, neighbors, and being generous with them, they will grow up to do the same.

Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises:
that by these you might be partakers of the divine nature,
having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
2 Peter 1:4

I like the God's promises box idea a lot! I'm going to give that a try.

One suggestion I have is to have the children practice their memory verses in the car while we are driving places. They inadvertently end up learning one another's verses, too, just from hearing them so often.

We aren't just once a week church goers. We have Wednesday night Bible study, where we as a church delve into the word of God. No Awanna, (must be a denomination thing, never heard of it before, until a few yrs ago). We do our job as parents and teach them Bible verses ourselves.
Amen and what wonderful advice. We are doing our best to teach our little ones. We read scriptures and say family prayers every night. And are very involved in our church. And as we tuck each one in at bedtime, we say a prayer with them and bless them to know Jesus' love for them. It is amazing how much they glean, even at a young age. My little 17 month old will get so excited just to see a picture of the Savior and will exclaim, "Jesus! Jesus!" It is so touching. Thank you for all you teach me about parenthood Lori!
"The most important thing for you to do, however, is to model Jesus to your children." We, too, are convinced of this. And even more, we're convinced that our children will learn to love Jesus and follow Him by watching our own authenticity in doing so in all areas of our lives. Such a privilege and a HUGE challenge. So thankful that God works in their hearts as we raise them and trust Him!

Thank you as always for your encouraging posts!
My mom read the Bible to us every morning before school. We had family devotions every night. Starting about age 13, I had my own devotions every day. I am middle aged now and very thankful for this. And also Scripture memorization.
i like the idea of a promise box and reading from Proverbs at dinner time. My son is nonverbal, so it isn't likely he will ever repeat verses to me, but it will still do him (and my husband and me) a world of good to immerse ourselves in the Word at home as well as going to worship. Great post!
