A Sad Day For America

Beyonce is a peddler of soft-porn. Dancing half-naked has become mainstream.  The most-watched sporting event in world history had a stripper for halftime entertainment. The only thing missing was the pole and the laps upon which she could dance

As soon as  the halftime started, I asked Ken to change the channel. I saw the previews for her and knew she was a godless woman who danced provocatively. Thankfully, I have a husband who wants to be kept accountable.

The article by Dave Daubenmire is a very good one.  You should read it.  It seems every Super Bowl half time is soft-porn now.  It is why we never watch them. Our society keeps sinking lower and lower and will be drowning soon.

I was listening to Dennis Prager yesterday and he said a law to allow people to walk around San Francisco nude didn't pass by one vote.  One vote!  Clothing gives people dignity.  Public nudity takes that away.

Women, if you wear bikinis or dress provocatively, you are taking your dignity away.  Men are looking at you as objects instead of human beings made in the image of God and with value.  We are called to be modest and protect our brothers in Christ, not try to turn them on and struggle with lustful thoughts.  They get enough of that from the world around them.  We are held to a much higher standard.

Yes, the moral decay of our society is going downhill fast.  It may be time to get rid of our televisions soon in our desire to pursue holiness and please God.  We must look and act differently than the world so they will see Christ in us.  This is the least He deserves of us.

Live for Him.  Be obedient to Him.  Love Him and love others.  This is what He asks of us. Glorify Him in all that you do.  This is the path to peace and joy.  The world is on the path to misery and destruction.  Stay as far away from it as you can.

For this is the will of God, your sanctification:
that you abstain from sexual immorality;
that each one of you know how to control
his own body in holiness and honor,
not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God.
I Thessalonians 4:3-5

I was at home with my parents, we changed the channel before we even saw her, knowing it would be terrible for my 9 year old daughter, 4 year old son, and my dad.
My husband was at the cigar shop, with his friends. He is a Christian, but has never attempted to "guard" what he watches, unfortunately. I was quite surprised, however. Even though he was in a building full of men, he chose to walk outside, sit in the car, and talk with me on the phone throughout the entire halftime show. He said after the first minute of watching her, he felt disgusting. He said he half expected the men at the game to start throwing dollar bills at her. He even asked to make sure our children weren't watching it.
God is surely working on my husband, as he normally would have sat through it, staring like many men. I'm thankful that prayer always works. Sometimes it takes awhile, but God DOES change hearts!

What I saw of it was absolutely awful. Thankfully, my husband was not in the room. MARRIED male Facebook friends of mine were making comments about her legs. I hope she's proud of herself.
Love her or hate her, Beyonce is actually a very talented singer (and dancer). Her performance showcased none of that! Not only does sex sell, but apparently it is displacing talent and artistry as well.
Dennis Prager has his facts incorrect about SF public nudity. It was not a vote to allow public nudity, but to ban it as it was previously legal. Local business owners complained that it was hurting business because people on average felt uncomfortable being next to a naked person for any length of time. However, the law allows exceptions for the many festivals that take place in SF.

I agree with you on getting rid of the TV. I have not had one for close to a decade now.

What Dennis said was correct ~
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/21/us/san-francisc....

Not allowing people to walk around naked only passed by one vote.
"He {Dennis} said a law to allow people to walk around San Francisco nude didn't pass by one vote." That is not correct, it was not a law to allow people as they were already allowed, it was a law to ban people from public nudity. In other words, SF took a step towards "dignity", not the other way around, which is what Dennis was trying to spin.
All he was trying to point out is that a sane board would have voted 11-0 to prevent people from walking around the city naked instead of 6-5. Five board members think it is okay to walk around naked.
Dennis should know it is not a matter of sanity, but of politics. People tend to get upset if you take away previously held freedom's. Politicians are elected to represent their constituents and in SF public nudity for many goes hand-in-hand with freedom of speech. I fail to see the insanity of the closeness of that vote. As Tip O'Neil once said "all politics is local". What is insane is the notion that people in one town/city should be required to think and live in the same way as people in another.
I didn't see this we usually don't watch sports. I'm glad you wrote about it and exposed it for what it was though. Good Post!
I was at a friend's house with our husbands and some other members of their church small group. Even in a group of Christian men, their gazes were all fixated on the television. I agree with you. Women are losing their dignity and they don't care. The desire for attention is so strong, sex will get it...even though it's negative attention.

This is a sad world we live in.
A while back, I saw 20/20 or Barbara Walters or something where they did an interview with Beyonce. She talked about her "Christian faith" and showed that right before every concert she gathered together with her people to pray, asking God to "bless" them and what they were doing. There are so many entertainers and public figures who verbally give glory to God, but their lives and actions seem to show something different.

Sami, I saw that interview too! We are sending a wrong message. The bible clearly says,"You can't serve two masters. You are either for God or against God!
Thank you for writing about it! I was discusting by it. We were at friends house, they are chritians and I asked my kids to leave the room. I couldn't watch it after 30 seconds. She came from Christian home, her father is a pastor. I guess t becomes normal if you been doing for long. A year ago she was talking how Jesus Christ is with her always. If we can't do Hs commandments and not follow the Spirit of God, how is that we are Christians. We need to pray for this country. Thank you as always, great article!
Let me preface my comment altogether by saying that I didn't watch the Superbowl, so I didn't see the halftime performance. I just have to say, as someone involved in the classical ballet world - "dancing half naked" is nothing new or unique to this culture. I think it's very important that we differentiate between clothing and intent. Most ballet costumes would fall into the category of "dancing half naked". But the intent is key. Beauty and celebration at the amazing gracefulness of the body God designed for us is sometimes best displayed by clothing that is short, tight, or less-than what we would wear normally. But that doesn't make it soft porn. The intent of the performance is integral to how it should be viewed - if it's meant to whet unrestricted sexual appetites, then it's a bad influence. If it's meant to glorify the Holy Maker of all, then it's not necessarily so.

I am not so sure I agree. My daughter danced for a Christian ballet company {http://www.balletmagnificat.com/} for 9 years and they always wore modest, beautiful clothing. She loved dancing for them for that very reason and that they shared Jesus wherever they went!
Mellisa, if you watch the end of her song.......she used her eyes and mouth to lust over her. She was using her look. She was htting her butt. There is nothing that glorify God there. I have seen so many ballet dance, the spirit of lust wasn't their intention and I don't have a problem. May God help our nation.
I read a quote the other day and can't remember who said it, but it had a huge effect on me: "It is a man's duty to respect a woman. It is a woman's duty to give men a reason to."

I see young women (sometimes as young as 11 or 12) being allowed to leave the house in nothing more than a skimpy tank top and too-short shorts. I don't agree that boys should leer at girls, but what are we teaching our daughters?? It's downright mean to let them dress that way and then get mad because a young man stared at them.

My husband just looks at me and shakes his head. I pray that any daughters we may have will listen to him and understand that he isn't being controlling when he tells them they can't dress a certain way. He was a young boy once and knows what goes through their minds.
We decided when our daughter was born we did not want cable in our in house. Now when we are somewhere else and see comercials that come on we go into shock. It is beyond sad what we as a society have allowed into our homes. As parents it is our job to guard our childrens heart and mind. I am a preschool teacher and I am so sad at some of the things my students have watched on tv. I try to live by " if Jesus was sitting/standing next to me, would he be proud of what I am seeing/watching...or what about my daughter, would I let her watch this"
Amen! We changed the channel during the entire halftime show. We were discussing with the group we were with, that they KNOW families are watching this...why not make it a family friendly show? I know there are many families watching who would appreciate that SO much. We also talked about how Beyonce is a mother now and how disturbing it seemed for her to be performing like this when she has a little daughter who will soon be old enough to watch her mom's performances. How embarrassing. We live in a crazy, crazy world. We go through spurts of putting our TV away for a while. We do like to have it for our kids to watch their movies and for my husband and I to have an at home date movie night. It's a hard balance, for sure. And like someone else said above, the commercials on TV are almost the worst part. Even if you are watching a good show, the commercials are awful! Keep standing for truth Lori, I appreciate your blog SO much!
After having directtv for over ten years (!) we stopped, and have no local stations, either. We now watch blu-rays and stream from Amazon. We are much happier to not be paying to bring that junk into our homes!
We never watch the half time show either for the same reason you already stated - soft porn. It's ridiculous. Even the commercials are horrible, though. My husband and I always get irritated because you can't even sit down and watch a football game anymore without worrying what's going to flash on the screen before your eyes. And this would be why we rarely watch t.v.
I was reading our local newspaper yesterday and read an article on the dress cope of the Grammys (to be held this Sunday) - it said "The network sent out an email with the subjecting line "Standard And Practice Wardrobe Advisory" in which it requests that "buttocks and female breasts are adequately covered" for the televised award show."

I think many people are fed up with the lack of dress of the "stars" and organisations are taking note - how as the article points out, its unlike to be policed. We generally watch DVDs at home and very little TV (as I can't stand the ads) but mostly due to the amount of mindless rubbish on TV.
