When Nobody Is Looking

My condiments needed a basket to go in.  I went to a store to find one.  I first found a plastic one but then saw the one above.  I knew it was perfect!  Instead of taking the plastic back to where it belonged, I just stuck it near where I found this one.  Then I thought, "What if someone was watching me?  Was I acting with integrity at this moment?"

I walked the basket back to where it belonged and put it back.  Why should someone else clean my mess?  I have even tried to do this when trying on clothes.  I hang up and fold everything so it will be neat.  I have even been careful to put back the shopping cart where it belongs.

I decided I want to try and be pleasing in all I do, not just when people are looking.  We need to strive for excellence in every area of our life.  We should be known for our honesty and integrity.

The righteous who walks in his integrity—
blessed are his children after him!
Even a child makes himself known by his acts,
by whether his conduct is pure and upright.
Proverbs 20:7,11

I've been trying to teach this to my 12 year old daughter lately. We sometimes eat at a taco restaurant and they have a sign on the tables that says we will be glad to clean off your table. So we purposely clean off the table before we leave.
Thank you for sharing. You are such a great example of being a woman of God and a person of excellence. I tell my husband about your blog posts and he always tells me to keep reading them! Thank you and have a wonderful Sunday.
I try to do the same thing. The only time I don't take it back is if I'm at the checkout then I hand it to the cashier apologetically. I try to teach my kids to leave our tables at restaurants as decent as possible as well. :)
I am so like this except if I park a long way away from the buggy bins and I don't always walk it over. Shame on me! It just takes a few seconds to leave the dressing room neat and the table at the restaurants neat. Another great post!

It truly is a pleasure to "know" you from reading here Lori. I enjoy these personal glimpses of your walk with the Lord. "The Lord takes pleasure in His people. He will beautify the meek ones with salvation." Psalm 149:4 Love & prayers, in Jesus, Cynthia
Stopping by from Momstheword link up. I really love what you said about doing everything with excellence even when no one is looking.

I have done this more then I should care to mention, but since I got married my husband has notice this and has told me by example the right way to treat other people stuff, it is very interesting, we forget that even being faithful in the smallest areas of life will add pleasure and respect for your husband and other. My careless behavior is getting a new makeover you could say.
I desire to please God even in these small ways. And your writing just once again, is a reminder too me that God cares about what we are doing and how we do it, so that we are truly serving others.. Thanks. Because He loved me, Felicia Parak
My oldest son used to work for a grocery store and he would talk about how people would put MEAT on shelves. Can you imagine just setting your meat next to the canned goods because you didn't want it anymore? Then the store has to toss it because they don't know how long it's been out. Great post, my friend!
