The Ideal Christian Lady

Will your children rise up and call you blessed?  We can not become godly wives and mothers by our own strength.  We need daily communion with our Savior.  He needs to guide us and lead us in all of our ways.  If we want to become more like Him, we must know Him and spend time with Him.

The following words were written by Frederick William Farrar about his mother.  She is a wonderful example to us of what a godly wife and mother looks like.

My mother made it a habit every day, immediately after breakfast, to spend an hour in her room, reading the Bible, meditating over it, and praying to the Lord.  It enabled her to maintain a genuine peacefulness in spite of the normal trying worries and pettiness that so often accompany life in a crowded neighborhood.

As I think of her life and all that she had to endure, I see the absolute triumph of the grace of God in the ideal Christian lady.  She was such a lovely person that I never saw her lose her temper or speak even one word in anger.

I never heard her participate in idle gossip or make a disparaging remark about another person.  In fact, I never saw in her even the hint of an emotion unbecoming to someone who had drunk from "the river of the water of life" {Revelation 22:1} and who had eaten of the "living bread that came down from heaven" {John 6:51}.

Her children arise up, and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her.
Favor is deceitful and beauty is vain:
but a woman that fears the Lord, she shall be praised.
Proverbs 31:28,30

While these are some lovely things Frederick says about his mother, I just want to point out that we can "idolize" people sometimes. Raised Catholic, later I was so surprised to discover that the Saints in the Bible were sinful & human; Such as David, Samson,& last night I was reading some about kings, Uzzah, Josiah, Asa, Hezakiah, etc. who were Godly men but had some serious issues with pride & disobedience that brought about severe discipline from God. I John 1:8&9 " If we say we have no sin we are deceiving ourselves...if we confess our sins, He is faithful & righteous to forgive us...." You instruct wives to give much grace to their husbands because they are not perfect Lori, so I want to remind you that women need grace as well. (Besides that, we get BLAMED a lot!) Love & prayers, in Jesus, Cynthia Sorry so long, keep up the good work!

The men in the old testament did not have the benefit of the Holy Spirit indwelling them. In I Corinthians 11:1 Paul writes, "Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ." After the disciples were filled with the Spirit, they were powerful men of God walking in holiness. God commands us to walk in love and obedience. He wouldn't command that of us if it is not possible. We are new creatures in Christ. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. Can we still sin? Of course, but it no longer defines who we are or how we behave. I truly believe that there needs to be godly, amazing women out there to be role models for younger women. I know some! I will always teach God's best and His ideal for women. Since I am speaking to women, I do encourage them to accept their husbands the way that they are and allow the Spirit to change and convict them which He most certainly can do just as He does with us.
Thanks for pointing that out, Lori! It is a common mistake Christians make, to compare ourselves with the saints of the Old Testament/old covenant. We have the Power of the Holy Spirit!! They couldnt live above sin - we can. Thank you for beng an older woman who teaches truth and encouragement to us younger moms. We desperately need it.
We have been reading in Genesis and I hate to say that I've been somewhat discouraged by the sinfulness of God's people. I could also be discouraged by my own shortcomings (also known as sin) as I endeavor to serve my husband and raise/home school my children. Thanks for the reminder the we have the indwelling Holy Spirit. I can put things in better perspective. I know that spending time in God's Word, accompanied by a humble spirit and requests for forgiveness go a long way to set an example for my children. Unfortunately, they won't be able to say that they've never seen me lose my temper or speak a disparaging word. But they do see me continually returning to the Lord in prayer and reading my Bible and confessing my sin and not giving up. I John 1:9, Galatians 6:9
My conscience has been pricked a little. :) I can definitely do better. Thanks for the encouraging post!
How inspiring thank you so much for sharing!
