Finding Your Life in His ~ Chapter Nine

Think with me into the future. When both of you are old and gray, will your husband look back fondly on his life with you or will he look back with regrets for even marrying you? Are you making his life one that he enjoys or are you making it one he regrets? Does your husband live with a wife that makes his life happier or harder? Are you your husband's dream lady or his nightmare? Have you fit into his dreams for life or have you thwarted them?

In today's feminist environment, I see and hear of husbands who give up their dreams for the future careers of their wives'. They will move across country for their career. They may even be the one to stay home with the children. This is not being the help meet that God created women to be. Whatever your husband wanted to be in life, you should have willingly told him, "Let's go!" instead of "No way!" since he is the leader of the family and we were created to be his help meet.

When my mom married my dad, he moved her across the country away from her large family and all she had ever known to go to medical school. When I married Ken, he was in seminary to be a preacher. I expected to be a preacher's wife when I married him. My son, Steven, found his bride in Houston and she readily left her family and schooling behind to go where Steven was going for his career. My youngest daughter, Cassi, lives in another state to be with her husband while he pursues his career. Not one of my daughters or daughters-in-law expected their husbands to follow their plans. They all followed their husband's plan. This is the way it is supposed to be since men are called to be the providers of their families!

Find your life in his. God made us women to be help meets, and it is in our physical nature to be so. It is our spiritual calling and God's perfect will for us. It is the role in which we will succeed in life, and it is where we will find our very greatest fulfillment as a woman and as a saint of God...Wisdom is knowing what you "bought" when you married that man and learning to adapt to him as he is, while enjoying the full value of your "purchase."*

If a woman isn't willing to leave everything and follow her husband and his plans, she's not willing to be a true help meet to him. God created us to be help meets to our husbands. He created men to be the providers and protectors, thus they needed someone to help them in this role. We are to learn to fit this role perfectly whether your husband is a preacher, missionary, electrician, doctor, sergeant, policeman or garbage collector. They all need help meets so decide today to be your husband's perfect help meet and do it with joy. Life is short so do everything in your power to make his short life one of happiness.

Pray that God will give you the wisdom and grace to share your man's dreams so it will always be you that he dreams about.*

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
James 1:5
