Candy Makes You Sick And Fat

Ken and I have a little game going on.  We have to tell each other our weight and keep each other accountable.  Neither of us want to get heavy as we get older.

Several Halloweens ago, bought two huge bags of candy for Halloween.  I have been having a fistful of Skittles the last few days.  My weight is creeping up and my throat hurts.  Even though it doesn't have many calories, it prevents weight loss.  Maybe the reason is because it is pure sugar and chemicals.  Your body can't use it and it suppresses your immune system. The key to good health is a strong immune system.

This other blog had a discussion on couponing.  I wrote a post Good Health God's Way for the discussion on how I use to coupon but quit because almost everything you can buy with coupons is junk food or chemicals to clean your home with.  I don't want either. I shared all my opinions on having good health and my frugal recipes instead.

There is an article called  America: A Big, Fat, Stupid Nation.  I love this quote ~

Your grandparents were raised in a generation aware that God's
supermarket was better than man's.

It is interesting that most flus and colds begin after Halloween.  Too much candy is not good for the body. So wake up, America!  Start eating food the way God intended for us...

I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.
Genesis 1:29

P.S.  If you need something for your sweet tooth but want it to be full of good fats, satisfying, and nourishing, try these Healthy Peanut Butter Cups.  They are so yummy! Good fats {avocados, butter, olive oil, coconut oil, etc.} don't make you fat.  Sugar does.

YES! I was in a conversation with a friend about how she just couldn't find any good gluten free/healthy snacks for her kids. I suggested fruits and veggies and her response? "I never even thought of that!"

I wasn't sure if I needed to laugh or be sad for her!
Lori, just saw the title of your post on H2W and it's very blunt but true! (I think if you NEVER allow yourself to have any you can go CRAZY or at least me) but a little ONCE IN A WHILE is fine but I am with you, if it's around the house, you know where it's going... straight into my mouth! Thanks for linking up! One of my top 3 from last week was how to handle sweets with your kids: http://thetableofpromise.blogspot.com/2011/10/how...
I had to click over when I saw your title. So true. I'm craving sweet right now and a glass of fresh pressed apple cider sounds about right.
I believe it was Willard Scott on the Today show that said he lost all his weight by eating only what they did 100 years ago, eliminating all the unnatural ingredients we see today. This makes sense. Their diet was not necessarily low in fat or carbs but they also engaged in quite a bit of physical activity, something we typically lack today with modern conveniences. I've got a long way to go but this is something I also need to do.
I stopped baking when I stopped homeschooling-last June. I was getting my high schoolers up in the mornings with baked goods. I use to bake breads. We did have honey and sugar(I always reduced the amount in recipes) in the house. I never put sugar in my coffee or tea. I don't keep vanilla with alcohol in the house. We don't have artificial sweeteners in the house. I will be the Grandmother that gives our grandchildren fruit, etc. Their mothers can bake with them. I read somewhere that the chemistry for sugar and cocaine are very similar.
Yeah, I finally figured this out when I found that I was slowly becoming allergic to everything. Now I've got a healthier diet, and I'm keeping up with all of my health issues. Go figure. But God has a pretty interesting sense of humor, and I wasn't paying attention to all of His neon signs. lol By His grace, I enjoy His bounty instead of all of this... nutritionally empty glitz and gore.
The article you referred to is very true, by the way. And we have only ourselves to blame.
Thank you, and God bless.

You are so right!

I'm trying to truly like real foods better than pretend food... but I think the manufacturers are in a conspiracy with my taste buds.
What a great post! I will be sure to share this. So true!
Too true!
