Superbugs and Antibiotics

An infectious disease specialist was on Katie saying he is afraid of what our future holds concerning superbugs.  He thinks we are going to go back to pre-antibiotic days and many people will die much younger.  We have way overused antibiotics.  They were originally intended for life and death situations and now they are given for the common cold.

I get Dr. Dr. Schulze's newsletter and he talks a lot against the flu shot and antibiotics.  He believes working on a healthy immune system is the way to go since so many are dying from prescription drugs and getting superbugs in hospitals.

One doctor on the news stated that the ones with the strongest immune systems can usually pull through when they are infected with superbugs.  Dr. Schulze gave a list of some things we need to do to keep our immune systems strong so I thought I would list them for you.

1 ~ Avoid sick people.
2 ~ Clean air.  Open your windows and let fresh air in as much as possible.
3 ~ Wash your hands often.
4 ~ Keep your fingers OUT of your nose, eyes, and mouth.
5 ~ Keep warm.
6 ~ Get more movement and sun.
7 ~ Get 8 hours of sleep.
8 ~ Avoid negativity.

I would add to watch carefully what you eat.  Eat food closest to the way God made it. Drink a lot of good bone broths salted with air-dried sea salt. Make sure you are getting probiotics from yogurt, kefir, or cultured foods for good gut health. Stay away from sugar and anything in a box or can. Eat mostly food prepared at home so you know what is in it.

We must not sit around and be afraid but do everything in our power to stay healthy and leave the rest with the Lord! If any of you have any more good suggestions, leave them in the comment section.  Thanks!

'For I will restore you to health
and I will heal you of your wounds,'
declares the LORD.
Jeremiah 30:17

While we also get flu shots (it's mandatory for my husband), it's been proven that chicken soup really does help for colds and flu! See http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2252167...

I make a fresh batch of chicken soup every week, and find that a crock pot makes it easy. The young mothers that you mentor may appreciate a recipe that doesn't require them to stare at a pot on the stove for over an hour or constantly skim the soup.

4 packages chicken bones
4 onions, quartered, WITH skins if they are clean
2 cups baby carrots
3 stalks celery
1 parsnip, cut into a few pieces
2 cubes frozen garlic (or 2 garlic cloves, chopped)
2 cubes frozen dill (or 2 tablespoons fresh dill)
Salt and pepper to taste ( I don't add it until serving - if you used kosher or other brined chicken bones, it may not be necessary)

Place everything in a 6 qt crock pot, cover with water, and cook on high setting for at least 7 hours. I usually let it cook overnight while I'm sleeping. When it's done, ladle through a fine strainer into a big pot, and refrigerate for 24 hours. The fat will congeal on top and can be removed, and any solid bits will sink to the bottom. The good, clear broth in the middle can be put into mason jars, and will keep well in the freezer. The carrots and the meat from the bones can be stored separately, and added to the broth when reheating it.
Great post. Don't forget essential oils! We use OnGuard (by Doterra) all throughout cold and flu season. It is a miracle worker, if you don't know much about it, look into it. It's amazing stuff. Last January I treated my strep throat with it and I got better MUCH more quickly than my husband who took an antibiotic at the same time. It also can be used to prevent sickness, we rub it on our kids' feet every night.
I agree with a lot of this. One thing about avoiding sick people is that most viral infections are communicable before the person has any symptoms so unless we live in a bubble we can't avoid exposure. So keeping our immune system healthy is extra important. I do get a flu shot yearly because if I get influenza I'm guaranteed pneumonia due to my lung status.

Chicken soup sounds so good on this cold, rainy day.
