Apply For An MRS. Degree!

The discussion on Girls Going To College was very lively!  I commented that it is sad that universities do nothing to prepare women for the roles of being a wife and mother. One women responded that they shouldn't do that.

Why not? They teach them everything else. So I was telling Cassi, my youngest daughter, this and she said we need to start our own school for young women who would love to prepare for their Mrs. degree.

Cassi will teach them how to grind their own wheat, make bread and other healthy baked goods. She makes incredible healthy peanut butter cups. She's even created her own cooking blog. She's great at math and computers so she can help women learn how to balance check books and make their own web sites. She loves crafts so she can teach them fun crafts for their children.

Erin, my daughter-in-law can teach them all about flowers and writing. She can teach them how to sew, decorate their home, and shop organically on a budget. She majored in biology so she'll show them science experiments to do with their children. They can learn about pregnancy and what to expect. She'll teach about babies and how to keep them healthy and happy. She can encourage them to truly love their husbands in the first year of marriage and beyond.

Alyssa, my oldest daughter, can teach them how to dance and stay in shape. She can explain their new lives in Christ and encourage them in their walk with the Lord. She's great with makeup and hair and can show them how to look as pretty and feminine as possible for their husbands. All of the girls, now that they are all happily married, can give lots of tips on planning weddings, but mostly preparing for marriage. They can all teach how to let their husbands lead and how to make them happy. They will explain how wonderful marriage can be and encourage them to marry a believer and wait upon God's timing. Most importantly, they will teach how to cover their relationship with prayer.

Emily could teach them how to write in calligraphy, decorate their homes, learn to cook food that is pleasing to their husband and how to have a joyful spirit. She's also incredibly intelligent like the rest of the girls so I am sure she could teach them many of the things she has learned in life and how to get through the first year of marriage and still be crazy in love with their husband!

I can teach them God's Word and what it says about submission, modesty, purity, and who they are in Christ. I will show them how to eat well and cook healthy meals. I can explain to them how to raise children and discipline methods that worked for us.  I can encourage them to cultivate contentment and being joyful even in the midst of trials.

So, what do you think?  Do you have any daughters you
would like to sign up??? :)

That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
Titus 2:4,5

oh my goodness! I've thought so many times there needs to be a school like that! To teach girls how to become Godly women! I'd sign me AND my daughter up!

I need this school! lol
Me too, Lori :) when I move to California it should happen!
I think an MRS degree is a great idea! ;-)
I would definitely go to that school! :)
There is a college in California that does that... http://www.masters.edu/academics/undergraduate/ho...
...but you guys might do it even better. Maybe you should establish an annual conference with seminars? Seriously. =)
I think this is an awesome idea! Love it!
I think it's a great idea! Maybe you and your daughters and daughter-in-law could do some sort of conference, women's weekend, or something similar. You could do one for women preparing to marry and one for those already married. Do it:)
My major was just about as close as you can get to this! Family and Consumer Science with an emphasis in Early Childhood Development. I'm so happy that I chose a major that really prepared me for home life and motherhood. It has come in handy with my 3 little ones!!!
My mum was my teacher and she was great and all that she taught me, I taught my sons and one day they will teach their children. My dear mum is very ill at the moment so thinking about all that she taught me does make me a little sad. I don't know how much longer she has with us, but I know that she is eager to go to heaven.

PS She didn't teach me dance and i can't imagine her ever dancing, but she taught me to love music and art, so pretty close. And the most precious gift - to love the Lord.
Me too... in New Zealand
Great idea! I agree with some of the above comments, it would make a great conference, women's getaway, or webinar. We want to homeschool our children, and my husband and I have talked about have a class like this for our kiddos in high school (one geared for our boys an on for our girls).
Visiting from the Weekend Warrior Party. On the surface, I think this is a great idea. And I love the concept of women who are a bit further along investing in the lives of younger women - that's a huge part of my job as a college minister. My only fear is that this would feed into the notion that God promises marriage and that He's not good if He doesn't provide a husband. Just a thought based on struggles I've dealt with myself as a 30-something single.
I would sign up!!! I really think that they need to put Home Ec back in schools. I never learned how to cook, sew, etc when I was younger and it's hard trying to learn now that I am married and have a little one. Women really need to invest in each other and be an engouragement to one another.
I would most definitely attend. I am somewhat self teaching by reading, observing, being encouraged by blogs, learning through those blogs, as well as spending time in the word of God and in prayer.
sing me up! I'd love to mayor on what's truly important. I graduated on computer science engineer, and most though i was crazy when i wanted to do another career in teaching. But I want to homeschool my kids and be prepared for it. My mom and peers think I should be studying a master s degree, but I am happily taking sewing classes, soon to start baking classes! It's good to mayor on MRS and I have tons to learn! seriously Lori, you got to start this! :)
This made me chuckle... fun ;) I learned all of that growing up as the oldest of 5 homeschooled kids and consider my 4 year old and 2 year old daughters already "in training" - I loved college - the huge range of diversity in people I met and all the great conversations... SO MUCH KNOWLEDGE to soak up - it was great for me! And I had nearly continuous witnessing opportunities. So I really hope my daughters will go to college - after they graduate from my "Domestic Goddesstry School" lol! Thanks for the smile this brought to my face :D
Isn't the saying "it takes a village to raise a family"? This goes along with that for sure! How about using your gifts for those in transitional phases of their lives, like brand new single moms coming from pregnancy care centers, single mothers trying to juggle it all, or those newly married within your churches? In my area, there are programs to go along with transitional housing units that would gobble you right up because they need that mentoring help so much! Be encouraged and follow this path where it leads, for our Father does have a plan and it's a good one! :-)

Lori, what a wonderful idea. Years ago, the Lord impressed upon me that being a wife and mother was the highest calling. I was even involved in a lot of church work at the time because I felt that was what Christian women must do. That of course is not bad in itself, but I was losing sight and getting a little overwhelmed with my responsibilities at home of being a wife and mother because of it. The Lord was calling me to home school my four children, at the time. (Three more were added to the mix as time went on:) But, when the Lord spoke to my heart telling me very clearly that being a wife and mother was my first ministry, I was set free to give them all that they deserved and I was able to have the grace and strength to pour into them as the Lord led, and then to have time for ministry to others as well. The rewards are eternal doing it His way! Unfortunately, there is much pressure out there in the world we live to take wives and mothers out of the home. We all need to walk in the wonderful freedom of being all that He created us to be - and not fall into the trap of the world's pressures and Satan's lies. Go women of God! The McGlade family cheers you on!
A lovely idea!!! And needed for young ladies...
Love it!!! One of the best things about Homeschooling. I'm teaching my children life skills right along with the book work. As always blessed by this blog!
Carla <><
I could greatly benefit from this myself. I was never really taught any of this when I was rowing up. I got pregnant and married at 17, divorced at 21, re-married at 22, then divorced again at 30. I really need someone to teach me how to be a Godly woman and wife to the future husband God sends my way.
I would send my daughters to a college like that in a second! And I'd get my degree there too! :)

Lori ~ you mentioned Erin being able to teach organic grocery shopping on a budget; could you post on this/have her do a guest post? It would be so helpful to me. We live in northern WI and during long winters especially it is tough to find a variety of fresh, organic produce. There is a co-op across the bridge in MN that always has a large selection, but the prices are 3x as high as the other stores, even if we become co-op members. I feel called to feed my family an organic diet full of fruits and veggies, but need help knowing how to keep the costs in line. Thank you!

My daughter isn't due to be born until June, but can I sign her up for 2027 when she's 15?! We hope to homeschool our children like I was, but sometimes a mom can use a little help in the areas she is weak in.
