Beautiful Women

Since Alyssa and Jon live an hour away, we try to get up there every once in awhile and visit Alyssa during the day. We love to go to a movie, if there is a decent one showing, go out to lunch, and shop a little bit. We always take my mom. My mom is always up for a good time, especially when it involves her daughters and granddaughters.

I love spending time with my daughters. They are truly a gift from God. I was a strict mom with them and disciplined them as I saw fit when they were growing up. I cared more for their inner beauty than their outward beauty. As you can see, they are both very beautiful.

Ken and I tried very hard not to make too big of a deal about their outward beauty. We knew that outward beauty is fleeting but inward beauty is eternal. We wanted them to have a heart for God and live to serve and please Him.

They both have grown up to love Jesus. They both want to live for Him and trust Him with their lives. Whether or not your girls are beautiful on the outside or not, they can have wonderful lives if they follow and obey Jesus. A wonderful life has nothing to do with how beautiful you are on the outside but how beautiful you are on the inside.

I am getting old. I have gray hair that I have to dye every three weeks. I have a lot of wrinkles. {I have been raised in Southern California and I love the sun!} My outer man is definitely decaying just as my girl's outer man will decay someday. So I work even harder on becoming more beautiful inside.

God tells me I am being renewed day by day. His mercies are new every morning. I am so happy that this life isn't all there is but an eternity in heaven with a whole new body awaits me!

So whether you have beautiful girls or not, don't make a big deal about their outward beauty. Make sure you focus on their inward beauty. I have known a lot of women who are beautiful on the outside and real ugly on the inside. I much prefer to be around those who are beautiful on the inside.

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.
I Peter 3:3,4

Beauty does shine from within - especially if the light and love of God shines through! Thoroughly enjoy your girls and mom! Truly a blessing. I hope you have a wonderful weekend,
Kathy
I'm one of a house full of daughters, and distinctly remember how my parents (especially my mother) would never let anyone compliment us just on our looks.

Whenever a family member, church friend, neighbor, or anyone really, made a comment to my parents about what beautiful child/children they have, my mom would always throw in "Yes, and they're really great musicians", or "yes, and they do very well in school", etc. etc. It really enforced to all of us that beauty is of little significance...which was a hard line for my mother to distinguish, because we were also taught about the importance of our appearance (clean clothes, dressing appropriately, tamed hair and the like).
I have sons and I also love spending time with them - how else do you get to know you children as adults if you don't.

Just a quick question - how do you dye your hair. I am reaching that age where I can see white and grey strands and hate using the commercial dyes as I am sure they are really bad for you.

I use Herbatint. I use to buy it at the health food store but now I get it at iherb.com. I love it! My friend, who is very chemically sensitive, had it tested and said it is non-toxic.

I miss my mom everyday! i tell everyone who has a mom still w/them to cherish them! A friend of mine her mom is dying. and i was able to give her tips on what to do in these final months. Tips i wish someone would have told me.
Great insight :) I have two very beautiful little girls, and have gotten comments about them since they were small. I agree that it is important to teach them about what is going on inside rather than just focus on how they look. I also have a handsome little guy, and the same really can be said about boys.
My two daughters get complimented all the time on their physical beautiful. However, it's their beautiful spirits that really shine. That's so much more important! That is what we focus on as a family.
Beautiful post Lori, thank you for sharing this eternal truth. As we focus on the Lord, He will give us an inner beauty that outshines anything else!

Blessings,
Nicole at Working Kansas Homemaker
I appreciate your thoughts, and I try to teach my daughter the same thing. And by the way, I think the grey hair that the Lord gave me is BEAUTIFUL! Why dye it?
a beautiful picture! your and your daughters are beautiful inside and out!
Your daughters are both so beautiful! I agree beauty needs to come from within and enjoyed reading your post. I am visiting you today from Friendship Friday.
Beautiful post. My mom lives 8 hours away and my daughter lives 19 hours away so I am a bit envious of your one hour. Blessings, Debbie
Wonderful post! We are teaching our daughters that God loves to see their obedience more than their beauty..and that is what will sustain them and attract men of the right character.

We are equally training our sons that they may be attracted physically to outward beauty, but if the inside has been neglected, or if the inside of a woman does not serve Jesus, then the outside is an empty shell.
This post is making me miss my mom and grandma. We used to go every Saturday and do something when I still lived in the states.
Lori....you're dgts are very beautiful and I love this mom post. I have two dgts also...16, and 12 and your words...'I love spending time with my daughters. They're a gift from God.' rings so true for me too. I always think God must have loved me so much to give me my girls. Thanks for sharing this....I loved reading through it.
This is wonderful advice. Our society focuses on the outward beauty. How wise you were to emphasize the inward beauty. I grew up in the southern California sun too. Now I've been exposed to a lot of Arizona sun. It really does reek havoc with one's skin. Thankfully it doesn't harm the inward person.
Blessings,
Charlotte
I've heard my girls repeating the, "Pretty is as pretty does." The love for Jesus shines from the inside -- and never so beautifully as when our young people focuses on the inward. This is such a wonderful post. I hope mothers who read it will put it to practice in their lives.
I absolutely agree!!! So well said!
makes me miss my mom- would love to spend an afternoon with her (but thankfully will see her in June!) blessings to you!
God truly treasures out inward beauty and heart condition. Thanks for the reminder :)

Lovely. All of it, and you too my dear. His mercies do just increase don't they?
What a lovely post. We've always tried to instill in our daughters the truth that their TRUE beauty is a reflection of Jesus pouring out of their lives to shower others. And we are so blessed to see that beauty in their lives. In fact, sometimes it is hard for me to see their physical attributes apart from that.

Coming over again from Gratituesday link-up.
What a beautiful post! I don't have daughters but I do have a few nieces that i try to influence to the good. What a blessing for you to continue spending time with your daughters and your mother.
a beautiful post. Thank you for linking to the Thursday Favorite Things blog hop. Sending hugs and happy weekend wishes! xo
