Hardened by the Deceitfulness of Sin

The author of the book of Hebrews tells us that the only unforgivable sin is unbelief. It is echoed all over the Bible. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever BELIEVES in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life {John 3:16} This is the Gospel; the Good News for anyone who believes.

What is the one thing that keeps people from believing? Their sin. That's it. Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin {Hebrews 3:13} Sin hardens our heart. The more we sin, the farther from God we get. The farther from God we get, the less we believe in God, then God gives us over to a reprobate mind {Romans 1:28}.

Hebrews exhorts us several times not to harden our hearts to Truth. How do our hearts become hard? By flirting with sin and giving it a foothold into our life. By watching shows, movies, or reading books with sexual immorality, immodesty, and debauchery. Romans 1:32 warns us Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. We should NOT take pleasure in other's sinning, since this is giving Satan a foothold into our life.

We must protect  our heart. Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it {Proverbs 4:23}. We are commanded to dwell on the lovely and the good for a reason; what we watch and read affects us and begins to harden our hearts. Once we harden our hearts through the deceitfulness of sin, we may not enter into eternal life since a hardened heart leads to unbelief. And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief {Hebrews 3:19}.

You cannot be a Christian and walk in sin. It is impossible. Read and study 1 John and it is very clear. Be transformed by renewing your mind with the Truth. Be in the Word consistently. Listen to godly preaching and teaching. Obey God and don't allow your heart to be hardened. You have been warned.

An excellent post, I have just finished Hebrews on my 'read through the bible in a year' and really found it very challenging. I remember the children's song 'O be careful little eyes what you see, ears what you hear, feet where you go etc'. How profound that song is!!
Blessings to you as ever

Thank you, Helen. You are a very kind woman. I will love getting to spend eternity with you!
The beauty of truth is it never goes out of style. Even though I'm a week late, your message always applies! Well ,,,God's message that you are prophesying for all to see. Thanks for your reflection on the 'simplicity that is Jesus,' as you consistently do.

And as for this message: if we consider the lack of belief in His Word as what it really is -- DENYING CHRIST -- we might see our hard heart a little more easily.
